Thud—
At that moment, Duan Jidao had already dropped to his knees before the crystal coffin, gazing at the woman inside — Duan Qirou — his eyes brimming with deep affection.
At first, everyone present except for Chu Feng was bewildered by Duan Jidao's reaction.
However, Song Yuheng's grandfather, Song Yuheng's father, and Song Yuheng himself soon noticed something — the clothing on the woman in the coffin was identical to the one his grandfather had forged?
"How can this be?" Song Yuheng's grandfather was dumbstruck. He had barely managed to stand moments ago, but now he collapsed back onto the ground, his face ashen.
He had never understood before how Chu Feng had known about his forging of Duan Qirou's remains. Now he knew — Chu Feng had found the real body.
"Chu Feng, where did you obtain Qirou's remains?" After a long moment of gazing at the coffin with deep emotion, Duan Jidao suddenly turned to look at Chu Feng.
"Senior Duan, it is rather a long story. I am simply not sure whether you would be willing to hear the details," Chu Feng said.
"Speak. Tell it from the beginning — every detail." Duan Jidao nodded repeatedly. He wanted to know the full account of what had happened.
So Chu Feng recounted the entire sequence of events to Duan Jidao, omitting nothing.
This included how he had stumbled upon Duan Qirou's remains in the Falling Leaves Bamboo Forest, and how upon arriving here, he had seen the poem and inscriptions on the gravestone.
It also included what Yin Gongfu had told him — about Duan Jidao's past, and how the body buried beneath that gravestone had been fabricated by Song Yuheng's grandfather.
In short, Chu Feng did not conceal a single thing from Duan Jidao. He laid everything bare.
"How outrageous."
Upon learning the full truth, Duan Jidao erupted in fury. First, he unleashed a devastating palm strike, reducing the fake grave he had gazed upon with such longing for so many years to nothing but rubble.
Then he reached out and seized Song Yuheng's grandfather, dragging him near and forcing him to his knees.
"My lord, please let me explain, let me explain! Chu Feng is framing me — it is Chu Feng who frames me! The remains I presented to you were truly those of Lady Duan Qirou. His are the fakes!" Song Yuheng's grandfather continued to plead his case.
"You dare lie to me still? This crystal coffin was taken from me by Qirou herself, long ago. She said that one day the two of us would be buried together within it." Duan Jidao was so enraged that each hair of his beard stood on end, his entire body trembling violently. His fury was plain for all to see.
The moment he had laid eyes on this crystal coffin, the moment he had seen Duan Qirou's body within it, he had known — this was the real one. And yet Song Yuheng's grandfather had the audacity to tell him it was a forgery? How could he possibly tolerate that?
"My lord, I would not dare — I would not dare deceive you! I have been loyal to you with all my heart, I—" Song Yuheng's grandfather would never admit under any circumstances that he had betrayed Duan Jidao, and he continued to defend himself desperately.
"Shut your mouth." Duan Jidao's palm descended. A thunderous boom rang out, blood blossomed in every direction, and Song Yuheng's grandfather was obliterated into nothing.
"Ah?!!!" Seeing Song Chenghong killed before their very eyes, Song Yuheng's father and Song Yuheng collapsed onto the ground in terror.
A long moment passed before Song Yuheng came to his senses. Desperate to survive, he scrambled over to Duan Jidao and kowtowed repeatedly, begging for mercy:
"Spare me, my lord! Spare me, my lord! For the sake of all the years I have served you loyally, spare my father and me! I will never dare deceive you again — never again!"
"What? You two were in on this as well?" Hearing those words, Duan Jidao — whose eyes were already blazing with rage — narrowed them even further.
