Chapter 775: Clues

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 894 words

She's not dead? She escaped? And she still wants to avenge Prince Edessak? In that instant when he saw Tris, Klein, standing behind the curtain in the master bedroom, almost failed to control his expression.

Although he had vaguely guessed something from the earlier conversation, seeing the reality still exceeded his expectations.

Even without using dream divination, he could still recall parts of his conversations with Tris before the Great Smog of Backlund. Back then, she couldn't wait to free herself from Prince Edessak's control and the manipulation of the puppet master behind her fate, finding only pain in her daily life.

Would a Demoness who was originally a man sell her soul to an evil god just to avenge Prince Edessak? What kind of cheap romance novel plot is this! Klein twitched the corner of his mouth, "seeing" the butler, Walter, toss a bag of food to Tris, "hearing" his brief instructions, before watching him turn and walk away into the hidden passage.

At that moment, from Klein's own perspective, a figure slipped out of Councilman Macht's house. Moving through the shadows of the street, it quickly approached the sewer entrance. It was Hela, who possessed a mystical item from the Marauder pathway.

She's going to run into Walter... This doesn't look anything like a sewer entrance! It's the main entrance to a bustling market! Klein stared down, almost raising his right hand to cover his face.

Reaching the sewer entrance, Hela cautiously looked left and right for a few seconds. Then she moved the manhole cover and climbed down. The entire action was smooth and practiced without a single hesitation.

Stepping onto the slightly damp ground, she advanced quickly with a clear purpose, following the rusty iron pipes and the slow-flowing filth river.

Suddenly, a chill ran down her back, her spine felt icy cold, and every single hair on her body stood on end.

Immediately after, Hela felt as if she had fallen into a river with a frozen surface, a vast amount of cold rapidly claiming her body.

She watched in horror as her own legs stepped in another direction, leading her straight toward a wall with iron pipes, completely against her will!

Fear quickly filled Hela's mind. She finally broke free from the stiffness of her thoughts and channeled all the spirituality she could control into the necklace around her neck.

The necklace strung seven bright green, translucent stones, evenly spaced, surrounded by a circle of tiny diamonds. Even in the absolute darkness, they emitted a faint glow.

Suddenly, one of the stones lit up. The emerald light cast a sinister, ghastly pallor over Hela's beautiful face.

Her movement toward the wall came to an abrupt halt. Her feet awkwardly took a step forward, and then another step back.

At that moment, Hela felt the coldness inside her body stagnate for a brief instant.

She unhesitatingly used her spirituality to light another translucent green stone, raised her right hand, pointed it at herself, and twisted her wrist sharply.

At the same time, mysterious symbols and patterns appeared in her mind, and her spirituality and vocal cords underwent a temporary change.

She had stolen the Beyonder power "Banshee's Wail"!

Hela was just about to open her mouth to let out a desperate sound, but she felt her hands lose control again. Vigorously, forcefully, and quickly, they covered her mouth.

Her wail was reduced to a muffled sob trapped in her throat. Her feet carried her lightly and swiftly to the wall, turning into a side passage, where she crouched in the pure darkness.

She struggled with all her might, but it was useless. She couldn't even activate her necklace again.

Hela's dark brown eyes were wide open, filled with terror and unwillingness. Two crystalline tears began to slowly roll down from the corners of her eyes.

At this very moment, Walter groped his way out of another side passage, returned to the sewer entrance, and nimbly climbed up.

By the time he had silently climbed back into Dwayne Dantès' residence at 160 Böklund Street, Hela suddenly regained control of her body. The terrifying coldness had completely vanished.

Startled, she first raised her hands, using her night vision to look at them. Then she looked around in fear, as if the darkness of the sewer hid countless unknown monsters.

Hela then touched the necklace on her chest with her right hand, cautiously stood up, and moved closer to the entrance.

She didn't panic and run. She remained constantly alert for an attack from the depths of the darkness.

Finally, she was back on Böklund Street. The light shining from the cast-iron gas lampposts illuminated the road, still marked with traces of rain.

Only then did Hela quicken her pace, rushing toward her home. Halfway there, she suddenly turned back and, in a flustered panic, pulled the manhole cover back into place.

After doing this, she followed the shadows of the street back to her own garden, climbed up using the gas and water pipes, and entered the balcony of her bedroom.

Only now did she actually regain the ability to think clearly. She widened her eyes, instinctively looking left and right, and her body began to tremble visibly.

She raised her left arm to wipe her face with her sleeve, but stopped midway and instead took a handkerchief from her pocket.
