Chapter 299: Yet Another One

January 17, 2020 · 5 min read · 976 words

Fors, lying on the floor of the living room, blinked a few times as her eyes slowly opened. She saw the bright moon hanging high outside the window, like a disc brimming with crimson light. The usual light and hazy veil of crimson had completely turned into a thick blood light.

I didn't die, I didn't lose control… It wasn't a dream… A mysterious and powerful Mr. Fool really saved me… Fors turned over and sat up, checking herself. She found that aside from her hair being slightly longer and thicker, there were no other abnormalities.

"But compared to before, my life has completely changed… I don't know if this is good or bad…" Muttering to herself soundlessly, Fors sat on the floor hugging her knees, staring blankly, sometimes at a loss, sometimes anxious, sometimes bitter, sometimes dazed.

…………

Above the gray fog, Klein stared at the chair whose symbol was the "Overlapping Doors" and muttered thoughtfully:

"I wonder what information those ravings actually contain…"

"Once she reaches Sequence 7 or Sequence 6, she should be able to resist the negative effects and make out the contents of the ravings."

"If she hasn't mastered the Acting Method yet, let Miss Justice and the others help teach her. I swore on a sacred artifact to the Goddess that I wouldn't mention such things in front of people who don't understand the Acting Method."

"…When I advance to Sequence 5 and become a Marionettist, I might be able to use the corresponding ritual and the peculiarities of this mysterious space to remotely manipulate her, directly seeing the scenes she sees and hearing the sounds she hears."

"That way I can confirm if it's Mr. Door…"

"He is a gentleman who has witnessed the history of the Fourth Epoch. He is likely even older than Mr. Azik, who has lived life after life."

"I wonder what his strength and level are equivalent to. Sequence 2? Or even 1?"

After considering for a while, he felt his spirituality become unstable and quickly sank into the gray fog, returning to the real world.

This was a normal phenomenon soon after advancement, so Klein gave up on going out and patiently meditated at home to gather his scattered spirituality.

…………

Early in the morning, Fors took the earliest steam subway back to the Saint George District, then transferred to a public horse-drawn carriage and arrived at the two-bedroom room she and Xio now shared.

Just as she opened the door and entered, she was surprised to find Xio, who usually slept very late, toasting bread there.

"There was a sudden blood moon last night, and I didn't sleep well. I woke up very early. Fors, are you okay? Did those strange ravings get stronger?" Xio raised her head and asked with concern.

Fors's vision suddenly blurred. She turned her head to the side, forced a smile, and said in her usual tone of putting the other down:

"Where is your brain? Didn't I tell you? The ravings are bound to get stronger during the blood moon!"

"But it has no effect on me, mm, no effect. Look at how energetic I am now!"

"Hey, toast a slice for me too!"

"Don't you usually dislike this way of eating?" Xio tidied her short golden hair and muttered quietly.

…………

Having completed the initial revenge and obtained advancement, Klein slept until dawn. Going out leisurely, he bought a serving of Feynapotter noodles for breakfast, paired it with a Dice pie, and took a cup of sweet iced tea to go.

After enjoying the meal contentedly, he put down his knife and fork, picked up the newspaper, and began reading in a very relaxed mood.

Glancing over it, he found the headline on the front page of the Tassok News:

"Blood Moon Night, the Murderer Appears Again!"

Again? Klein quickly flipped through the front pages of other newspapers and saw many similar headlines:

"The Real 11th Incident! Police Are Helpless!"

"Cold-Blooded Murderer Provokes the Police Again!"

"Panic Is Spreading in Backlund!"

This… the Nighthawks and Mandated Punishers must be pretty troubled, right? Klein sighed sincerely in his heart.

Honestly speaking, he had a strong urge to catch the murderer.

Back on Earth, when he had no abilities, he often fantasized about himself upholding justice and punishing evil. Now, as a Sequence 7 Beyonder, Klein felt that not becoming a superhero would be a disservice to his past.

Ah, pity, but this case has already attracted a high level of attention. If I get involved now, wouldn't I be asking for my identity to be exposed? I have to be rational… Besides, according to "The Sun," the murderer is likely in the transition stage from Sequence 6 to Sequence 5. Although I have gained so many spells and spell-like abilities and I am not afraid of him, I might not be able to catch him. The risk is relatively high… After weighing the pros and cons, Klein chose to follow his strongest inner desire and be an ordinary citizen.

He believed that with the strength of the major churches, if the murderer continued to commit crimes, the chance of being caught was high!

After finishing the relevant news, Klein glanced at the Backlund Morning Post and found that the advertisement for Ernst Business buying goods had appeared again on page five.

"There's a gathering at eight tomorrow evening. Just right, I can sell the Crystallized Marrow of the Spirit of the Lake to the pharmacist…" Klein muttered while memorizing the first four digits of all the quotes.

More than half an hour later, he finished reading the thick stack of newspapers in front of him and began to seriously think about his future plans:

"The long-term plan is to advance to high sequences, become a demigod-level powerhouse, and plot the matter of revenge against Ince Zangwill."
