After leaving the room, Klein cautiously put his cane and lantern in the same hand, freeing his left palm so that in case of an emergency, he could immediately take items from the pocket on that side.
Inside were charms, Azik's copper whistle, some Tarot cards, and aside from the separately stored "All-Black Eye" characteristic left by Rosago, he had gathered all his means of response.
Klein and Miss Bodyguard took only a step sideways, and the lantern's light illuminated the emblem on the door beside them. It was a simple baby surrounded by wheat symbols, flower symbols, and spring symbols.
"The holy emblem of the Earth Mother Goddess..." Klein said solemnly and lowly.
As a former Nighter, distinguishing symbols of other churches was one of the basic skills.
Miss Bodyguard nodded almost imperceptibly, as if in affirmation.
Her black Gothic court dress, in this environment and atmosphere, seemed even more gloomy and terrifying, and her pale face was illuminated by the lantern's flame like a vengeful spirit.
If any other adventurer came here and saw this scene, they would surely be scared into a panicked and stumbling escape.
Klein held his breath, extended his left hand, pushed open the stone door with force, and raised the lantern high.
He found that the layout here was very similar to the previous room—a perfect fusion of a small prayer room and a giant statue.
Crossing the open space paved with wheat-colored stone slabs, Klein used the lantern to illuminate the three steps ahead.
On the steps stood a clean white stone sculpture four to five meters tall. It was a plump and graceful lady, with wheat growing at her feet, springs surrounding her, her dress flowing outward, adorned with various herbs and flowers, and depicting different animal figures.
This lady held a cute baby wrapped in swaddling clothes, overall holy and dignified.
"Could it be a statue of the Earth Mother Goddess?" Klein muttered with a slight curl of his lips.
Miss Bodyguard did not answer, nor did she deny it.
After checking thoroughly, the two left the room and opened the third door next to it.
Behind this door was a corridor that could accommodate four people walking abreast. Ahead was dark and deep, mysterious and eerie, leading to an unknown destination.
"Let's first check what's behind the four doors on the right," Klein proposed.
He dared not rashly go deeper.
Miss Bodyguard floated backwards, responding with her actions.
The two opened the four stone doors on the right in turn, and saw respectively the "Storm Holy Emblem" composed of gale and wave symbols, the "Sun Holy Emblem" surrounded by linear patterns, the "War God Emblem" made of dusk symbols and sword insignia, and the "Knowledge and Wisdom Holy Emblem" represented by an open book and an all-seeing eye.
Correspondingly, inside the rooms were four suspected deity statues:
A dignified middle-aged man in black armor, standing on waves, surrounded by storms, with lightning on his back, holding a trident;
A young man in a pure white robe, holding a contract book in one hand and a sun-like golden sphere in the other, handsome and energetic;
A warrior seated on a throne, his long sword placed before him, his face hidden behind a visor, his armor giving an indescribable sense of decay;
An old man with a book and an all-seeing eye, wearing a hood, only showing his mouth, wrinkles, and long white beard.
Except for the God of Steam and Machinery, all six orthodox deities had prayer rooms and humanoid statues in this eerie hall!
Considering the weak status of the Church of Steam and Machinery before Roselle's appearance, this issue seemed to have some explanation.
"How sinister..." Klein exclaimed, partially unable to help himself and partially wanting to test Miss Bodyguard's reaction.
Such a grand hall, a hundred meters deep, actually gathered statues of six orthodox deities.
This was unimaginable in the current era!
How could the churches of the six true gods allow their lord to be in the same building as other gods!
Was this a custom of the ancient Fourth Epoch? And what about those humanoid statues? Although they looked normal, not as eerie as the statues of the "Primordial Demoness" or "True Creator," they still felt strange... What had happened that caused the images of the six deities to evolve into the current abstract symbols... No, perhaps they had always been that way, but the owner of this place, a great noble suspected to be a member of the Tudor family, had deliberately created humanoid statues of the six deities for some purpose... Hiss, I just thought of an item from a novel in my previous life, the Six Soul Banner... While waiting for Miss Bodyguard's reply, Klein's thoughts wandered aimlessly.
Miss Bodyguard did not respond to this, but said in an ethereal, flat tone:
"There's one more door."
"Yeah..." Klein suddenly felt some fear.
In his view, the door placed at the center often had special meaning; perhaps it was the core area of this ancient building.
Of course, it most likely also meant the most dangerous.
"What is your intuition about that place?" Klein hesitated for two seconds before directly asking.
Without using the gray fog to eliminate interference, he felt that Miss Bodyguard's spiritual perception and intuition were more reliable than his current level of divination; after all, her state was very special, close to a spirit body, able to communicate with the spirit world without hindrance and receive revelations.
Miss Bodyguard closed her eyes, and after a few seconds replied:
"Very dangerous."
"But this danger is restrained."
"After going deeper, do not rashly move any items."
Restrained danger... Could this be equated to something being sealed inside? Klein speculated, and together with Miss Bodyguard, they arrived at the central stone door and stepped onto the deep black floor.
The lantern's flame seemed a bit dimmer, struggling to dispel the darkness ahead. Klein had already put his left hand into his pocket, holding Azik's copper whistle and several charms.
After about thirty steps, Miss Bodyguard suddenly stopped.
