Chapter 195: Infiltration

January 17, 2020 · 4 min read · 728 words

"Mrs. ?" Dunn clearly knew the widow of the late Baron Hoyle, the most famous socialite in Tingen.

Councilman Maynard's wife glanced at the frail woman in black who had accompanied her to the Blackthorn Security Company, but she did not speak herself.

The frail woman, also in a black dress and black hat, considered for a moment before saying:

"Yes. Mrs. Sharon, the wife of the late old Baron of the Hoyle family. She, she..."

She stammered for a few seconds, then suddenly blurted out in anger:

"She's a whore!"

Hearing this coarse language, Klein abruptly recalled that "dirty video" he had seen and how Mrs. Sharon had seemed timid but was actually very calm at the time. This made him somewhat more convinced of the rumors, and he silently sympathized with the deceased old Baron in his heart:

"It's not that Mrs. Sharon couldn't remarry, but this kind of promiscuous behavior... Sigh, the old Baron's grave is probably covered in green grass by now..."

Dunn's expression didn't change. He sat down on the sofa opposite them and said in a mellow voice:

"But this has nothing to do with whether she is a criminal or not."

"You know, and I know, that Mrs. Sharon is very influential in Tingen. Recklessly following or monitoring her could easily lead to unresolvable problems and very nasty consequences."

"She is a criminal!" the frail woman said angrily. "She caused my brother's death, but her lovers put so much pressure on the police department that they were forced to conclude that my brother's sudden death was due to excessive drinking and continuous overindulgence. They, they are all criminals!"

"Those..." Klein sympathized with the old Baron for another second and figured out the frail woman's identity. She was Councilman Maynard's sister.

"That makes sense. When it comes to a scandal like this, she wouldn't bring a maid. It's better to trust family..." He nodded in sudden realization.

Mrs. Maynard patted the frail woman's hand and added in a low, cold voice:

"She is a criminal!"

"If you suffer any damage because of this, I will help you resolve it and compensate for your losses."

"Such a tone... She really is the daughter of a big shot in the New Party... If the police department weren't so confident in my mediumship results, they might have bowed to her pressure..." Klein grumbled inwardly.

Dunn was silent for over ten seconds before saying:

"Alright... I have another question. You seem very confident that we can find something?"

The frail woman nodded and said:

"Yes. The tobacco merchant Wikroll referred us. He praised you as the top elites in this industry, capable of completing tasks that others cannot."

"Tobacco merchant Wikroll... Who is that?" Klein subconsciously looked at his captain, only to find that looked just as baffled.

"I'm so stupid. Why did I expect the captain to remember something like that... I don't even remember it myself..." He sighed inwardly.

Seeing the two elite "mercenaries" looking confused, the frail woman added another sentence:

"You saved his kidnapped son."

"Oh, it's him... That kidnapping case led me to the clue about the family's notebook..." Klein suddenly understood.

Dunn also nodded slightly and said:

"I see."

Seeing this, the frail woman laid out the terms:

"You will trail and monitor that, that bitch for two weeks. Even if you can't find evidence of her crime, you must record who visits her home and whose homes she visits. We will pay you 50 pounds for this."

"And if you can find evidence of her crime, or clues, we will pay an additional 200 pounds."

"This is a massive commission..." Klein suddenly recalled that he had only spent 7 pounds to get Detective Henry to collect so much information on the red chimney houses, and he felt a little ashamed for a moment.

Dunn thought for a while and said:

"No problem. We can sign the contract right now."

"You need to pay an advance of 20 pounds."

"Captain, we are really short-staffed lately, with that big case..." Klein didn't expect Dunn Smith to agree to this mission, although he himself was quite tempted.

Mrs. Maynard nodded slightly and said:

"No problem."

"I trust you. Please don't let me down."

Dunn smiled and said nothing. He turned to and said:

"Go draft a contract."
