After opening the "Gate of the Mental Body", Klein carefully extracted the memories related to "The Fool", gathered them together, and "grafted" them onto the
Next, he saw Audrey, her golden hair falling softly and a pale white silk scarf blindfolding her eyes, walk up the manifested ancient stone steps from the sea of collective subconsciousness, step by step onto his mind island.
After a moment's hesitation, Klein stopped keeping that part of his consciousness perched in the spiritual sky, relinquished control over it, and allowed it to return and merge.
If he didn't, in the subsequent psychological treatment, he would maintain absolute rationality, unable to be moved by the various memories, losing the possibility of strengthening his humanity.
This meant that Audrey's treatment was doomed to fail from the very start.
After relying on her spiritual intuition to reach that mind island, which looked more like a dream world, Audrey stopped and slightly opened her arms.
She immediately recalled the love her parents had for her, the excitement of first becoming a Beyonder, and the joy of truly helping others, using this to change her own emotions and emit corresponding ripples outward.
This was her way of awakening Gehrman Sparrow's humanity-related memories, a Beyonder application of the "empathy" effect.
One after another, scenes either worth cherishing or containing deep emotions flashed through Audrey's mind. Beneath her feet, on the surface of the island representing Klein's mind, specks of firefly-like light pierced through the "soil" and floated up.
Each of these light points presented a different scene:
"A little kid ran on short legs and took an ice cream."
"A student, using a textbook as cover, secretly read a novel and a comic book."
"A teenager sat at the computer desk at home, playing a game intently. Suddenly, he heard the sound of a key being inserted into the lock and gently turned. He jumped up abruptly, forcefully shut down the computer, and rushed back to his room. Later, overjoyed that his actions had gone undetected, his steps were practically floating. Every now and then, he went to the living room to ask his mother for pocket money, or wandered over to his father to casually ask a question about his studies."
"A young man, together with his friends, pushed a shy friend, shoving him into the hallway in front of his crush, then turned around and burst into loud laughter and shouts."
"A young man, still a bit childish, secretly looked downstairs, watching a figure walk away, but unable to utter a single word."
"An office worker with a slightly protruding belly returned home on holiday. Impatiently waving his hand, he told his parents not to pile food on his plate or set him up on blind dates. Yet, once he calmed down, he stared blankly at his parents' frost-white hair."
"A scholarly-looking man, after moving houses with his brother and sister, looked at the smudges and dust on each other's faces and burst into hearty laughter."
"…"
Klein sat at the small round table on the terrace, one hand holding his removed top hat, the other suspended in mid-air, as if it was about to reach for his face.
Two transparent droplets slowly slid down the sides of his nose, falling into the void.
Klein closed his eyes, his expression both gentle and sorrowful.
Inside his mind island, Audrey seemed to transform into a vortex of emotions, attracting and gathering memories of the same kind.
Just as the entire sky of the island was filled with firefly-like specks of light, a faint grayish-white mist spread out.
Within the mist, a glowing gate stained with a hint of greenish-black appeared indistinctly, composed of numerous illusory, brilliant orbs of light.
The main body of each light orb was made of worm-like creatures, either transparent, segmented, or resembling starlight. They coiled around each other, entwined, like beings from myths and legends.
At first glance, this gate of light was merely a bit strange, but upon closer inspection, one could see the surrounding environment was pitch black, as if it were draped in a deep black robe with a hood.
Thus, on the whole, it looked like a mysterious person hiding unknown oddities beneath its robe.
The next second, one after another, slippery, illusory tentacles shot out from under the deep black robe of this "mysterious person."
At this moment, although Audrey's consciousness couldn't see or hear, her spiritual intuition gave her a strong premonition of danger, an illusion of an ocean of corruption about to drown her.
No, this was not an illusion! She believed that if things were allowed to develop like this, she would be infected with a severe mental illness, or even go insane on the spot and lose control!
Just as Audrey was about to use all her strength to "calm" herself and weaken the corruption ahead, the firefly-like specks of light floating over the island rapidly gathered, illuminating the grayish-white mist and weakening the deep black around the strange gate, causing the tentacles covered in strange and bizarre patterns to retract.
This was precisely why Klein only underwent this "psychological treatment" after his mind had initially stabilized, allowing him to barely suppress the reviving will of the "Celestial Worthy."
This allowed Audrey to perceive the weakening of the danger. She quickly performed a mental analysis on herself, then immediately began to "calm" the corruption, performing true "hypnosis."
Again and again, Audrey spent an unknown amount of time, finally achieving the initial, expected effect.
She then exited Gehrman Sparrow's mind island and returned to her own body.
This treatment was very difficult, so she didn't use a "virtual personality" and directly employed her own mental body.
Sensing the end of the treatment, Klein raised his hand and wiped his face, allowing the memories of "The Fool" that were "grafted" onto the Gray Fog to return to his main body.
After a few seconds, Audrey took off the pale white silk scarf wrapped around her eyes and nose, ending the self-hypnosis.
She looked at Mr. "World" across from her and said, half-muttering to herself, half-exclaiming:
"So this is the mental problem brought on by divinity?"
Truly frightening...
Klein nodded slightly and said:
"Yes, every Angel has it. The difference is only whether it's relatively severe or extremely severe."
"Saints have it too, and Beyonders of medium and low sequences who aren't demigods also have it." Audrey added to herself, combining it with Gehrman Sparrow's previous explanations.
"For Beyonders of medium and low sequences, the mental imprints of past owners remaining within the characteristics are a relatively greater danger." Klein picked up the cup inlaid with gold thread and took a sip. "This is the cruel rule of the mystical world, because our extraordinary abilities all come from external things, from Beyonder characteristics."
Audrey first nodded, then gently shook her head, and said while thinking:
