Skirmish: Oni vs. Wind and Thunder ③

This is… bad.

Controlling the weather.

I never imagined it would be this troublesome.

A violent gale slams into my body.

I remember watching typhoon news in my past life, always seeing footage of people blown about by the wind, unable to move.

When you hear "wind magic," the first things that come to mind are probably sword slashes from wind or tornadoes.

Sword slashes powered by the force of wind.

Tornadoes are easy to grasp—easy to picture as a natural disaster.

But even without those, wind is inherently powerful.

I'm experiencing that firsthand right now.

The force of the wind battering me is so intense that if I let my guard down, my entire body will be blown away.

Given that my Status is high and I'm still in this state, an ordinary person would've been swept off long ago.

And the destination would be the ground—or some other surface—slammed into with all that momentum.

I don't know exactly how many meters per second this wind is blowing, but judging by the impact on my body, it's at least on par with—or exceeding—a super typhoon from my previous world.

Back then, even a regular typhoon could rip cars and rooftops off houses.

Being blown away by that level of force and then slammed into something at that speed—there's no need to even imagine what would happen.

Fortunately, I haven't been blown away yet, and even if I were, my high Status should prevent a fatal wound from the impact.

However, this relentless wind is pinning down nearly all my movement.

And to make things worse, the wind keeps changing direction.

The moment I let my guard slip, the angle shifts, and I'd be blown away instantly.

And as I'm pinned down by the wind, lightning rains down on me.

Literally—lightning strikes in rapid succession, falling like a downpour.

I catch them with four thunder blades pinched between the fingers of one hand, including spares.

A single blade wouldn't have been enough anymore.

Is it more efficient for the Leopard Dragon to call lightning through the clouds rather than discharge it directly from its body? Because this offensive is absolutely ferocious.

The rain soaking my body is also subtly making things worse.

Thanks to all of it, my HP is steadily ticking down.

Not all the lightning is being blocked by the thunder blades—I'm getting small shocks here and there, clear evidence of that.

I pull a spare magic blade from my spatial storage and hurl it skyward as a makeshift lightning rod.

The lightning gets drawn toward that blade.

In that opening, I fire off a stream of flame from the flame blade in my opposite hand.

But the fire is instantly smothered by the torrential downpour before it can reach the Leopard Dragon.

Before long, the magic blade I threw as a lightning rod is destroyed by the lightning, and once again, a rain of lightning comes crashing down on me.

I'm completely cornered.

The howling wind has me locked in place, and I'm forced to eat every last one of these already hard-to-dodge lightning attacks head-on.

On top of that, my own attacks get washed away by the rain.

The Leopard Dragon and the Ptera Dragon—do they think a close-range fight with me is too dangerous? They're circling in the sky, staying well out of reach.

My HP and MP are both draining steadily.

Weather manipulation on this scale, plus repeated lightning strikes.

Their consumption can't possibly be light either.

But the fact that they're still pressing the attack like this means they're confident I'll run out of steam before they do.

In other words, if I stay on the defensive, I'm finished.

I need to make a move and break their formation.

Teleportation.

Unfortunately, my Skill Level in spatial magic isn't that high.

I use spatial storage all the time, but even so, the skill gains are negligible.

Of all the schools of magic, spatial magic is among the hardest to level up.

There's a reason it's called a rare Skill.

In practice, spatial storage is essentially the only spatial ability I can use.

And among the magic blades stored in there—is there anything that can turn this situation around? No.

The flame blade and thunder blade I'm wielding right now are already my masterpieces.

If those masterpieces aren't working, it's safe to assume the rest won't either.

The only path forward is a close-range assault, but to do that, I first have to break free of this situation.

And I don't have the cards to do it.

…This is going to be a dangerous gamble, but staying put means a slow death.

Guess I've got no choice.

I wait for the wind to change direction.

Right now, the wind is blowing toward and the others.

That won't do.

Then—the wind shifts.

In that instant, I let my body go limp.

The next moment, the wind catches me and sends me flying.

Letting yourself ride the enemy's attack? That's absurd.

If I'm not careful, I could end up in an even worse position than before.

But without doing something like this, nothing was going to change.

The Ptera Dragon's attack is almost certainly waiting for me.

I'll weather it and somehow pull the momentum back to my side!

"Huh!?"

"Wait!? You—!? He's getting away!"

"No, but look! It's, um… I can't help—"

…Where I was blown to, there was nothing.

The attack I'd braced for—nothing.

Could it be that these guys are even dumber than I thought?

"Ah, crap."

"Huh?"

"My MP's almost gone."

"Whaaat!? What do we do!?"

"Shut up! With all that lightning, anyone normal would be dead! It's his fault for not dying!"

"I thought you were going all-out, but this is what it actually was!?"

"Quiet. Or I'll shut that mouth of yours by force."

"Ah, yes sir."

…They're idiots.

They're complete idiots.

Which means—had I just kept enduring, they would've run out of MP first, and I'd have had the advantage?

What was all that panic about…?

Along with the sinking feeling, a wordless rage starts bubbling up.

I was being pressured by a bunch of clowns like this.

…Alright.

Time to crush them.

Completely and utterly.

With that resolve, I charge toward the Leopard Dragon and the Ptera Dragon.

"Haah. Whatever."

The Ptera Dragon lets out an exaggerated sigh.

"I can win on my own, you know."

The next instant, the wind slammed down.

From directly above.

"Guh!?"

An impact like being struck in the head with a hammer.

My neck makes a horrible sound, and a numbing shock runs through my entire body.

I buckle under the pressure and collapse to the ground.

I misread them!

From their attitude, I'd assumed the Leopard Dragon was the stronger one.

But that's wrong.

This is wrong!

The Ptera Dragon was far more dangerous than the Leopard Dragon.
