320 — Nobody Is to Blame. But You, Po — You're the Worst

"Is that true?"

The Demon King pressed Kuro for an answer, but Kuro replied with silence.

That attitude already said it all, though.

From Kuro's perspective, the attack that had been aimed at him had been blocked by without his knowledge, and on top of that, it had caused MA Energy to drop and Reincarnators to be born, creating all sorts of bizarre situations. It's only natural that he'd feel responsible.

If he hadn't met the Hero before the last and the previous Demon King, he never would have become a target of the attack in the first place.

Dimension Magic isn't omnipotent, either.

Spatial Magic is super convenient, and its evolved form, Dimension Magic, is unbelievably so.

But what it can do and what it can't do are clearly divided.

Well, that goes for all Skills, really.

To use a Skill beyond its predetermined scope, you need to have a deep understanding of the magic that forms its core.

Since so few people can even use Spatial Magic, the Hero before the last and the previous Demon King must have been quite exceptional to wield Dimension Magic.

Even so, what can't be done can't be done.

With Dimension Magic, it's impossible to attack a target you've never encountered.

Just as with Spatial Magic, the first stage of Dimension Magic is specifying a location.

Then, you select and cast the next spell on that specified location.

Whether it's a transfer or an attack.

And what the first stage of location specification allows is a place the caster has actually visited, or a person they've met.

By having met the Hero before the last and the previous Demon King, Kuro had inadvertently made himself a selectable attack target.

If he'd been cautious and sent a subordinate instead of going himself, he wouldn't have become a target.

Well, he probably went in person to earn their trust.

It just backfired.

And Sariel interfered with the System and shifted that attack target to D.

Honestly, I can't quite figure out what Sariel was thinking.

There are several possible reasons, but I can't make sense of how that person's mind works, so I don't know which one is right.

Whether she simply wanted to save Kuro, wanted to harm D, or had some other motive.

This is something you'd have to ask her directly to find out.

Not that I have any intention of asking, or any interest in doing so.

Because whenever I face her, I get so irritated I want to punch her.

Well, regardless of the reason, it's certain that she had no ill intent.

It was more like she hastily prevented a sudden accident.

Though the fact that she didn't fully prevent it does make her seem pretty useless.

If Sariel hadn't interfered and the attack from the Hero before the last and the previous Demon King had hit Kuro directly— Kuro would have died, or been severely weakened by serious injuries.

Then Po wouldn't have stayed quiet about it, and the situation would have become chaotic.

At worst, it would have been Po's world to rule alone.

However, some of the MA Energy used to attack Kuro could have been recovered, and from the perspective of MA Energy, the situation might have been better than the current one.

If it was used within this world, MA Energy recovery wouldn't have been entirely impossible—well, not all of it, but some.

Moreover, if Kuro died, it would probably add to the MA Energy.

Given that attacking administrators is possible, it wouldn't be strange for such a function to be built into the System.

Like absorbing a god to increase MA Energy, you know.

On the other hand, the current situation.

Kuro survived unscathed, but instead, MA Energy plummeted.

The Reincarnators popped in with a cheerful "Hello!" and an era of upheaval began.

Either way, the situation would have been chaotic.

However, the elimination of Po was successful.

What you might call the blight of this world—or rather, its cancer. Well, either way, the most unnecessary thing has been eliminated.

Hmm.

Thinking about it this way, both routes have clear pros and cons, making it hard to call a winner.

But if Po had survived, it would only have led to a worse future no matter how you look at it—so maybe this route was the right choice after all?

Yeah, let's go with that.

Sorry for the trouble, Reincarnators.

Oh, except me.

After all, if I hadn't been reincarnated into this world, I would have ended my life over there as just a spider.

And through some twist of fate, I've even become a god, so I'd say the reincarnation turned out pretty well.

Hm?

Come to think of it, did Sariel do well?

...I'll say a prayer.

"Gyurie. You're not to blame."

"No. It's my fault after all. When I think about how I've been living my life carefree, completely unaware that this was all my responsibility..."

The Demon King pulled her thoughts away from Sariel and consoled Kuro.

Kuro could only laugh at himself in response.

Yeah.

Kuro didn't even know that his MA Energy had been drastically reduced, and he'd been convinced it was all Po's fault.

If this coward found out that he'd been involved without even knowing it, of course he'd feel responsible.

Some evil god or other was probably trying to be helpful and explain everything in meticulous detail.

Without being told, there's no way to know what's going on behind the scenes.

And the only one in a position to know all of that is that evil god.

Evil gods are seriously evil gods.

Huh?

"You want to know how I know all this?"

Don't underestimate my intelligence-gathering capabilities!

My information-gathering clones travel to various locations to see and hear what's happening on the ground, my analysis team hacks into the System to extract System-related information, and I've even developed a limited Evil Eye for viewing the past.

Using this new Evil Eye to peek into the past and layering deduction upon deduction from circumstantial evidence and whatnot, I've arrived at the truth.

Right now, I'm a Super Detective who can solve any unsolved case.

Well, the past-viewing ability is really impractical, so I hardly ever use it.

"If you feel bad about it, then take action now to make up for it."

I was getting fed up, so I wrapped things up with that.

"...Yes. You're right. Let's do that."

Mhm, mhm. Please do. You've got a big job waiting for you after this.

The incident triggered by the Hero before the last and the previous Demon King was steered toward this route through Sariel's intervention.

Now then.

When the incident I'm about to cause comes about, what route choice will the residents of this world make?

Well, no matter which route they choose, the ending won't change.
