So I'm a Spider, So What? · Chapter 117

99. That Guy's an Idiot, So I Need to Keep Things Together

I'm the body specialist.

I don't have a name yet.

This time, I want you to put up with me venting about the information specialist.

That guy's a total idiot.

The other day, when we were trying to learn a launch Skill, he came up with this idea — "Let's fire threads from our butts!" — so we gave it a try, and the thread flew out with way more force than expected, plunging straight into the magma.

It nearly set the rest of me on fire too.

If I hadn't severed the thread on the spot, I would've gone up like a human torch.

So anyway, he keeps coming up with stupid ideas like this at every turn, and the result is always some disaster or other.

There's never been a single time his ideas actually paid off.

I mean, I'm just as bad for going along with it every time with a "yeah, let's do it!" attitude.

Can't he come up with something a little more reasonable?

You'd think one second of thought would be enough to realize it's dumb, right?

Why doesn't he think things through when he's supposed to be the brains of the operation?

Is he an idiot?

He's totally an idiot.

That's why I, the body specialist, have to be the one who keeps it together.

After all, my actions directly determine whether we live or die.

Body specialist, body specialist.

What is it, information specialist?

"I wonder if we could stack the Evil Eye onto the telescope?"

!? Are you a genius!?

Hahaha. Yes, that's right — I really am a genius.

Wait, seriously? I'm a genius? If you're a genius, you can get away with anything, right?

Right, right. Combining telescope and Evil Eye to activate the Evil Eye from long range — isn't that insane?

Whoa. That's wild. My dreams are getting bigger!

And so, time to hunt for prey!

Hyah-ha-ha!

--- I'm the information specialist.

I don't have a name yet.

Simultaneously activating the telescope and Evil Eye didn't work.

Hmm.

I guess if we could do something that broken, it'd be too cheat-like, so can't be helped.

The telescope has reached Level 5, probably because I keep it active all the time.

Compared to Level 1, both the range and the magnification have increased.

If I could stack the Evil Eye on top of this, we'd have some seriously long-range offensive capability, but no such luck.

Still, this Evil Eye is incredibly useful.

I keep using it whenever I have MP to spare, so it's already up to Level 3.

Leveling is on the slow side.

But during our Middle Layer conquest, we've had MP to spare anyway, so the timing works out.

One thing I noticed about the Evil Eye — it doesn't seem to change my field of vision while it's active.

I couldn't combine it with the telescope, but other Vision Enhancement effects still apply as normal.

As long as I can maintain clear vision while it's active, there's no need to hold back a separate eye just for regular sight.

This opens the door to a dream scenario — activating the Evil Eye simultaneously across all eight eyes.

Also, it looks like you can't stack elemental attribute sub-Skills onto the Evil Eye.

I tried Poison Attack, but there was no effect.

Too bad.

Well, same deal as the telescope — if this worked too, it'd be absurdly broken, so can't really complain.

If my current venom could be stacked onto the Evil Eye, it'd make even the legendary Death Perception Eye — the one that kills with a glance — look tame by comparison.

Seeing just the damage-plus-debuff combo I have now already feels cheat-tier. Hoping for anything more would be pure greed.

So then I thought — could I deploy a single Evil Eye across all eight eyes simultaneously? Turns out, yes, I can.

The effect stays the same, though.

You'd think eight simultaneous activations would mean eight times the power, but it doesn't work that way. No such easy win.

That said, this simultaneous deployment is actually pretty handy for telescope use.

I can pick up different locations and magnify each one separately, and depending on how I use it, simultaneous deployment could be useful in various ways.

Anyway, switching topics — back to the body specialist.

That guy's a total idiot.

So the other day, when I came up with a proposal to try launching threads from our butt to see if I could get a launch Skill — he goes, "Oh yeah, that sounds great! Let's do it right now!" and fires a thread straight at the magma.

He's all, "It flew farther than expected," but there was no need to fire it in the direction of the magma.

And of course, the fired thread plunged right into the magma.

When the thread started catching fire like a fuse, I panicked.

Thankfully the body specialist severed it at the last possible second. If he'd been too late, our butts would've been on fire again.

So basically, whenever I come up with a proposal, he manages to produce results that are somehow sideways from what was intended.

Actually, more like downward.

Look, even when I come up with a stroke of genius, it's useless if the body specialist carrying it out is incompetent.

You'd think one second of thought would be enough to realize it's dumb, right?

He moves his body so much that even his thinking has gone full muscle-brained?

Is he an idiot?

He's totally an idiot.

That's why I, the information specialist, have to be the one who keeps it together.

After all, my instructions directly determine whether we live or die.

Information specialist, information specialist.

What is it, body specialist?

"I was playing around with the telescope and found some Monsters."

Wait, seriously? They haven't shown up in the Detection range yet.

Hehehe. Information specialist, is your very reason for existing becoming redundant?

Catch up, body specialist. If you think you can provide information that surpasses mine, you'd need about a hundred eyes to even keep pace!

Ha, enjoy your smugness while it lasts! You'd better keep your eyes peeled — er, wash your neck and wait!

Hmph. As if that day could ever come. Very well — try to climb to where I stand, to this lofty summit we call the top!

Hahaha.

Hehehe.

So what do we do now?

Obviously, we hunt them. Duh.

All right, all right! Come on, boys! Battle stations!

Hyah-ha-ha!
