Chapter 168: Breakfast Outside

June 25, 2024 · 3 min read · 677 words

Just as Rest climbed down to the ground, Viola and Primula poked their heads out of the tent.

"Oh, Rest. Good morning."

"Good morning. You're early."

"Yeah, good morning. I woke up early and went for a little stroll."

Viola and Primula had already changed out of their rumpled nightgowns.

Thanks to that, Rest had no trouble finding somewhere to look and was able to hold a normal conversation.

"Well then, I'll start preparing breakfast… before Yuri wakes up."

Primula kept glancing toward the back of the tent as she spoke, looking somewhat afraid.

"Oh… Yuri's still asleep, huh?"

"Yes… it seems Yuri isn't much of a morning person."

"Well, that fits the image perfectly. Not a single surprise there."

Yuri being a late sleeper felt very "in character."

If Yuri joined the breakfast preparations, things would only get more complicated, so it would be better to have it ready before she woke up.

"You know, you don't have to prepare it yourselves. I'm sure a servant would do it if you asked."

"Well, I think so too."

Viola shrugged with a wry smile.

"But we came here to help Rest, after all. We should at least do what we can on our own, right?"

"We'll have it ready in no time, so please just wait, Rest."

Viola and Primula lit a fire with magic and began preparing breakfast.

They cracked eggs into a frying pan, and once the yolks had set nicely, they threw in the bacon. A pinch of salt and pepper to season.

Then… they placed the bacon and fried eggs together on top of the toast they had toasted separately.

"Whoa, it's a terrorism-level delicious set."

Fried eggs and bacon on toast.

It was that incredibly appetizing dish you always see in foreign anime.

"Yawn… good morning, everyone."

Right on cue as breakfast was ready, Yuri appeared with a yawn.

She hadn't changed either and was still in her nightgown.

Her lower chest wasn't exposed, but… even so, her adorable belly button was visible.

"Smells great… is breakfast already ready?"

"Oh, good morning, Yuri—wait, what are you wearing?"

"Yuri, please go change quickly. It'll be ready soon."

"I guess I should… Oh, good morning to you too, Rest."

"…Good morning."

Rest averted his eyes from Yuri's belly button while returning her greeting.

A short while later, Yuri finally emerged from the tent, properly changed this time.

The four of them sat on chairs around the campfire and dug into breakfast.

"Delicious…!"

Rest took a bite of toast and voiced his honest impression.

All they had done was season with salt and pepper, yet the flavor was surprisingly rich and deep.

(You know, the eggs in this world are somehow… more intense than in Japan. Even light seasoning is satisfying enough…!)

Maybe the breed of chicken that laid the eggs here was different.

The fried eggs made with those rich eggs were incredibly delicious, more than holding their own against the savory bacon.

"Hah, hah…"

Across from Rest, Yuri was also eagerly gnawing on her toast.

"This is so good… It's not even a complicated dish, but it's really delicious…!"

"It seems you like it, Yuri."

"Oh, I love it."

In response to Primula's question, Yuri nodded vigorously over and over.

"I like eggs too, but… I've only ever eaten them raw or boiled, so I had no idea there were cooking methods like this."

"I-I'll teach you next time, if you'd like."

"Oh, I'd be happy about that."

Yuri flashed an innocent smile at Primula, who looked like she was struggling to keep her composure.

Yuri reportedly cooked for herself in the dorms, but… her cooking methods were generally rough and rather manly.

She only had two options in her repertoire: grill it or boil it.

(Even so, yesterday's steak was delicious… She probably has talent but just lacks experience…)

If she learned from Viola and Primula, she would surely improve.

In that sense, this camping trip might be really beneficial for Yuri.

With that thought in mind, Rest bit into his toast.
