"A request seeking information about those who have been frozen in ice in the Grand Temple of Forlth town."
A quest sheet that had apparently been posted for a while at the adventurer's guild in the royal capital.
It's ridiculously easy, but there's no reason for me to take it on.
Come to think of it, I think I once accepted a similar request and ended up in a real mess.
That was back around Chapter 95 — "Deliver 100 Elixirs for an Easy Rank Up!"
I'm not falling for that kind of thing again.
Oh wait, the requester is listed as "Jack-of-all-trades Shop Seasky."
Must be some kind of general store.
"Hey, that request catch your eye?"
When I turned around, a middle-aged man with a veteran adventurer's air was looking my way.
His short gray hair gave him a mature, cool-dad vibe.
"Nah, I was just glancing at it. I was thinking it's pretty generous to pay money just for providing information."
"Nothing's ever that easy. Of course, the information gets verified. If you spread bogus intel, you could get complaints filed with the guild and even have your adventurer's license suspended."
Fair point.
"But what would they even do with information about those frozen people? Could it be that some dark guild is gathering info to unravel the mystery?"
"Who knows. You never know where useful information might turn up. They must really want it badly."
Hmm, the truth is just that people who tried to kill me ended up getting frozen instead. That's all there is to it.
Telling him that would probably be disappointing.
It's a pretty commonplace story in another world, after all.
And for the record, there's no regulation banning revenge killings, so theoretically they could go on forever — but in reality, most people just swallow their losses due to differences in power or authority.
I, however, will absolutely, *definitely* never swallow my losses.
"Is that so? Well, thanks for the info. Anyway, um..."
I thanked him and turned to leave.
Hmm, but maybe I should at least buy him a drink.
"My name? It's Sharl. Hey, by the way — the fact that you noticed that request shows you've got a good eye. I've got an interesting proposal for you. Care to hear it?"
Hmm? Way too suspicious.
I stared intently at Sharl.
"That does seem pretty suspicious..."
"If you're suspicious of everything, you'll never get anywhere. You might miss out on a great opportunity. The goddess of fortune, you know — she's fickle."
Whether she actually governs fortune or not, the goddess I know does seem to be fickle.
"No, it still seems pretty suspicious to me..."
"Come on, don't be like that. Just hear me out."
"Hmm... alright. Can we change locations then?"
"Sure. I know a great little café. I'll treat you — follow me."
And so I ended up following Sharl without much resistance.
