There were only two of us in the carriage, but the driver was still outside, and this woman was trouble in a completely different sense.

The town of Surmey had an unpleasant atmosphere when we arrived.
Everyone seemed suspicious and on guard about something, and the cold, unwary looks I was getting felt like they were for a reason beyond just being from the Raging Kingdom.
I quietly eavesdropped on the parties gathered in the adventurer guild's lobby.
"So apparently Mary from the 'Lone Wolf' got caught recently. Can you believe she broke into some noble's mansion to steal?"
"She apparently stabbed another adventurer on the spot too."
"What's been going on with this town lately… It's not just Mary — more and more adventurers are getting arrested for committing crimes for some reason."
