"Do you know what kind of place the Grandore Gem Company is?"
"Y-Yes, well… I know of it. But if we don't get the delivery from you, our lives might be in danger, so to speak…"
The receptionist man stammered.
"Setting this aside, the decision to deliver or not is the adventurer's choice, isn't it?"
You have to weigh whether you're willing to accept the penalty for failing to deliver.
But in my case, this is completely risk-free.
"But canceling after accepting the request…"
"You told me there's no commission since they're not expecting much, and no penalty for failure, remember?"
"Ugh, that's true, but… this way the guild gets no commission either…"
The receptionist man was practically in tears.
I feel bad for getting his hopes up, but delivering to that gem company is the last thing I want to do right now.
After what happened last time and all.
But man, this is a real pain.
What should I do?
Just as I was thinking this, another man appeared from the back of the reception area.
"You're too soft-spoken for this! Step aside!"
A bald-headed tough guy walked out.
"G-Gilmas…"
"You there, adventurer. Get over here."
"Ah, yes."
And so, I was off to Dogan's Gilmas's office.

"Why did you refuse to deliver the 'Rainbow Drop'?"
"Do I have to tell you that?"
"Don't answer a question with a question! Kids these days can't even answer a simple question properly!"
Well, what do you expect.
"It's not like I have to deliver it now. It might turn up again in twenty years or so. Why is it needed right now?"
"Can you wait another twenty years?"
"Don't answer a question with a question. This is why adults these days…"
"Don't underestimate adults. If I recall, you came from the Raging Kingdom recently, didn't you? Let me tell you — the Grandore Gem Company is looking for the 'Rainbow Drop.'"
I pretty much figured that much.
Gilmas continued from there.
"Behind the Grandore Gem Company stands one of the Three Great Electors."
"The Three Great Electors?"
"The king of this country is chosen by the Three Great Electors. It's not some outdated hereditary system like in Raging. Defy them and you're dead. Consider this a word of advice, boy who knows nothing of the world."
"Thank you for informing me. So then, what happens if I deliver this 'Rainbow Drop'?"
"Well, obviously the Grandore Gem Company buys it at market price and resells it at an even higher price… delivers it to its rightful owner, of course. Now that you understand, hand it over already! I'll have you demoted, you hear me?!"
So the countryside guild master has already been swallowed up by the company.
If they're using scumbags like that to collect gems, it really is a shady operation.
I've got a great idea.
If they want gems that badly… I'll give them one.
"Very well. I'll deliver the 'Rainbow Drop.' But in exchange, I want a magical contract stipulating that 'Dogan's Adventurer's Guild shall pay me one million gold coins as compensation for my delivery of the Rainbow Drop this time.' And they must be genuine gold coins, of course."
"Fine! We can absolutely pay that!"
"Then I'll take your word as a binding agreement. [Holy Magic] — 'Sacred Oath Parchment,' activate! …There. The magical contract is now in effect."
A piece of paper inscribed with the terms of the contract appeared before both me and Dogan's Gilmas, then vanished into our chests.
This is a magical paper that can be summoned at any time by focusing on it.
