"Adventurer Alan... Your rank from the Raging Kingdom — the former Glory Kingdom — is Orichalcon. Looks like you're moderately strong. But if you think that'll fly here in the Meigrant Kingdom, you're sorely mistaken."
The receptionist at the neighboring country's adventurer guild pointed her index finger straight at me with a sharp flick.
"Ha ha ha! Ain't that the truth — head on home before you embarrass yourself. You've got a family, right? I'm telling you this out of the goodness of my heart!"
An adventurer nearby who'd been listening chimed in, riling things up.
Spiky blond hair and all the confidence in the world — but that was all he had going for him.
"This place is the middle of nowhere too, y'know. What's with the big attitude?"
This was Karista, a frontier town just inside the border of the Meigrant Kingdom.
"The Raging Kingdom? Well, yeah, anyone from a little podunk nation like that's gotta be weak. Happens all the time — people from tiny countries come to a big nation, find out how brutal it is, and slink back home all dejected. That's just how it goes, little guy?"
"You're the third-rate one for judging a book by its cover. Your tag says Gold, right? Takes some real nerve picking a fight with an Orichalcon."
That was when the receptionist cut into our little back-and-forth.
"Honestly, this is what you get with people from uncivilized countries... All right, Alan. The adventurer ranking system is universal, but the certification is different in each country. As for the Raging Kingdom — yes, you can expect a difference of about two ranks."
The receptionist spoke as though she were patiently explaining something to a small child.
"So what you're saying is, a Gold rank here is basically equivalent to Bronze in the Raging Kingdom? Then isn't that guy over there just a worthless slug?"
For reference, the adventurer ranks from lowest to highest go:
· Copper
· Iron
· Bronze
· Silver
· Gold
· Mithril
· Orichalcum
is what they are.
"The hell did you just say?!"
The spiky-haired blond guy reacts.
But the one who shot back was the receptionist.
"Is your brain Raking-ranked? It's the other way around, the other way around. Orichalcum at Raising is basically equivalent to Gold at the Meigrant Kingdom."
Yeah, that's about right, I guess.
Otherwise there's no way someone ranked Gold would bother teasing me.
"That's right! I hear the rank thresholds at Raising are pretty low too!"
Now the spiky-haired blond guy launches a counterattack.
So annoying.
Oh, but I should probably ask the receptionist about this.
"Um, what happens if there's a dispute inside the Adventurer's Guild?"
"Inside the guild? That's obviously not allowed. Inside the guild—"
You can't just slice someone up, rip the money out of their pockets, and hand it over to the receptionist.
Yeah, that makes sense.
Wait, so my Orichalcum is being treated as the same rank as his Gold?
There's no way that spiky-haired adventurer could ever beat Mist, though.

So you're Orichalcum, huh? Then go clear that dungeon called "High Goblin Lair." Even an Orichalcum from Raging should be able to handle that much, right? It's a cakewalk for Gold-rank adventurers around here.
The spiky-haired blonde adventurer taunted me.
"Oh, there's really such a dungeon? Thanks for letting me know.
I'll
get
around
to
it eventually."
"Tch—then come! You better actually show up!"
