■A rundown of the settings for My Sort-Of Dungeon Life:
I've gathered up the stuff that's a little hard to wrap your head around.
■Races:
There are six main races in total.
[1. Common Humans: A race with nothing particularly special about them. Short lifespans. But the most numerous.]
[2. Elves: Pointed ears, lots of beautiful men and women. Long lifespans. The second most numerous after Common Humans.]
[3. Fawns: A race with horns. Excel in combat. Slightly longer lifespans. It's said that their horns make Relics and OOPArts more powerful. Fairly numerous.]
[4. Beastkin: Beast ears and tails. Apparently they have instincts to match. Normal lifespans. Called the ○○ race. About as numerous as Elves.]
[5. Dwarves: An all-male race. Short and stocky. Decent lifespans. Skilled with their hands, lots of merchants among them. Fairly numerous.]
[6. Fairials: An all-female race. The smallest of all races. Four translucent wings. Long lifespans. Few in number. Always carry the Relic [Fairy's Incarnation].]
[7. Edda: The supreme race. Purple eyes. Without exception, every Edda is a noble. Always carry two Relics. Short lifespans. Fewer in number than you'd think. They worship a god called [Generous].]
■Monsters:
They broadly fall into two types.
Ordinary monsters:
Monsters that live in the wild.
According to Alexander, natural-born monsters.
Some are the same monsters that appear in dungeons. Honestly, it's a pain.
Maybe because of that history, ordinary monsters despise dungeons.
What they despise most are dungeon monsters.
Dungeon monsters:
Monsters born in dungeons that wander within them.
Creatures made from dungeon-fabricated base bodies with simulated personalities inserted.
They don't need to eat, so there's no excretion or anything like that.
Whether they have emotions or not is a topic that could spark a thousand-year debate, so that subject is considered taboo.
All undead are dungeon monsters. They exist only in dungeons.
Threat levels of monsters:
Divided into lower, middle, and upper tiers.
The benchmark for threat is whether they possess a Relic.
Also, monsters can use OOPArts as well.
That said, the number of Relics held is just a rough guideline — power and effects vary, so it's not entirely reliable.
'Bronze rank: Fodder. Doesn't even carry a Relic.'
'Silver rank: Carries one Relic. Upper-tier ones hold around two.'
'Gold rank: Carrying two or more Relics is the norm.'
'Gem rank: Holds four or more Relics. A single one can destroy an entire city from the lower tier up.'
'Treasure rank: Number of Relics is irrelevant. Can destroy a country. Upper-tier ones are called gods.'
■Currency:
The smallest coin is the mixed copper coin.
Those with low content are called mixed coins, and silver and gold coins also have mixed varieties.
Mixed copper coin: 1 oro
Small copper coin: 50 oro
Copper coin: 100 oro
Mixed silver coin: 500 oro
Silver coin: 1,000 oro
Mixed gold coin: 5,000 oro
Gold coin: 10,000 oro
Lords' coin: 50,000 oro
King's coin: 100,000 oro
Time-Related:
Twenty-six hours makes up roughly one day in this world.
Clocks and other timekeeping devices do exist.
Hydrangea has several clock towers.
The interval until the next bell rings is roughly one hour.
The next bell rings twice, the one after that three times, increasing by one each time, stopping at evening.
And at midnight it rings just once. That ends the day.
The evening bell rings twelve times.
When that sounds, it marks the hour.
Many people argue that time should be measured more accurately.
However, in rural areas and such, people rely on church bells as their guide, and clocks haven't really spread.
It's something to address in the future, though it's questionable whether that level of accuracy is really necessary.
Sooner or later, there will come an age—and a world—where time chases you down.
■Relics:
Essentially, every living being in this world can wield them.
Even dungeon monsters can use them.
However, for reasons unknown, there are people who don't have Relics.
It is said that Relics are etched into one's soul.
They are etched into the soul, but in common parlance, people say they "possess" them.
The general consensus is that having a Relic is simply a fact of life.
Most people don't think much of it one way or the other.
When a Relic takes root, its name and effects become instantly known to you through text or a voice inside your head.
This is said to be because it was etched into the soul.
Types of Relics:
Some Relics have an active duration and a cooldown period.
[Elemental Relics: Fire. Water. Wind. Earth. Green. Thunder. Light. Dark—the eight attributes.]
[Physical Relics: Body enhancement, combat techniques, weapon skills, and the like.]
[Exploration Relics: Relics that are useful for exploration.]
[Transformation Relics: Relics that let you transform into animals or monsters. You must keep transforming in order to grow accustomed to the body.]
[Conditional Relics: Extremely powerful effects. Usable once conditions are met.]
[Summoning Relics: Can summon living beings or inanimate matter. Have a cooldown period.]
[Spatial Relics: Covers [Banish], [Teleport], [Black Spot], and [Storage].]
[Pseudo-Deification Relics: Basically Relics that let you become a god or demon, such as [Generous]. Legendary Relics. [Saint] also falls under this category. However, since they're pseudo, all have short activation times and long cooldowns. Almost no one knows about them.]
[Lifestyle Relics: Relics that are useful in everyday life. [Purification] falls under this category as well. Their value isn't particularly high.]
[Other Relics: Those that are difficult to classify.]
■ OOPArts:
A medium that amplifies or draws out a Relic's power.
Basically, anything that adapts to or resonates with a Relic becomes an OOPArt.
In other words—this might be a bold claim, but if it adapts to a Relic, then it's an OOPArt.
They range from weapons to accessories.
Most can be found in dungeons.
If it can't adapt, it's just an ordinary weapon or accessory.
However, adapted OOPArts can also be drawn together by fate.
Some OOPArts have souls dwelling within them.
When something adapts, the OOPArt's durability increases.
■ Legacy:
Consumables that house a Relic's power.
They have a limited number of uses and eventually run out.
Return Stones and the like fall under this category.
They don't have Relic-style recovery or anything like that.
Anything that does is invariably Legendary.
■ Legendary:
Those among Legacies that are too old and too high-performance get called that.
Most Legendaries have no limit on how many times you can use them.
So you can use them as much as you want. They can break, though, and some of them can be repaired.
There are also some things that get consumed but whose effects are on a whole different level — those get called Legendary too.
Example: Relic Plate.
Things activated by a Relic are also Legendary.
■ Items:
Everything that can be crafted, like potions, gets called an item.
■ Addendum:
By the way, nobody has called me out on this so far.
They're probably deliberately letting it slide. But there's something that's been bugging me.
The pouch.
You're probably thinking it's got way too much stuff crammed into it.
It really bugs me, but I don't stuff physically impossible things in there or anything like that.
I'd like you to keep watching over me kindly from here on out.
Wait, there's no entry for knife?
What do you think it is...?
■ Delver:
Someone who explores a dungeon — that's the general understanding.
Truthfully, it means someone who explores the world.
Delver: You can become one once you're an adult. Anybody who's turned 14.
There are exceptions, though.
You can register without a Relic, but most delvers have one.
Registration fee is 42,000 oro. You can also take out a loan with the guild.
Re-registering after a suspension or disqualification costs double.
Exceptions also come with a higher registration fee.
Ranks run from Class VI down to Class I.
Seventy percent of all delvers sit at Class V.
Even a single rank difference represents a massive gap in actual ability.
■ Epithets:
You get one when you reach Class II.
They're usually based on your achievements and title.
■ Class I Delvers:
There are currently 27 in the world.
It's not like the number is fixed at 27.
"That's just... roughly how it feels right now."
"Um, um, I have a question!"
"Well said. I love questions. Go ahead."
"Um, um — which Relic category does my Brainstem Thrust Kick fall under?"
"Huh? Brainstem? Th-that's... Relic... body-type? I mean, martial-technique Relics are included in the new classification, but no, Jushii's Relic is something different entirely."
"Um, um, Togo-chan. I think so! If you believe it's a Relic, then it counts as a Relic! So the Brainstem Thrust Gouge-and-Decapitate Kick IS a Relic!"
"That doesn't make it — wait, hasn't the technique name gotten even MORE brutal!?"
"I improve every day. Woof! Stronger and stronger!"
"I've said it till I'm blue in the face, but I'll ask again anyway — how can someone who looks that delicate and cute, that total 'I want to protect her' energy, someone who looks like she couldn't even hurt a bug, be such a complete musclehead!?"
"Um, um, that's obvious! Because that's who I am! Togo-chan. Can I tell you? I can tell you. If I train hard enough, I can crush an apple in one hand!"
"Huh? What are you — and don't crush it, that's a waste."
"That's true too. Then I'll crush a skull instead!"
"Scary scary scary scary."
"Skulls are pretty hard, so crushing one is really tough!"
"Have you ever done it — where would you even — oh right, there were tons of them at Zecatoria."
"Um, um, Togo-chan! There's something I have to tell you!"
"Yes, yes, what is it this time?"
"I'm very sorry, but — it's almost time, so I should be going!"
"Hydrangea, right. Sure, sure. Take care."
"Running there makes for great training!"
"No, just take the carriage."
