Morning.
I got out of the freshly replaced straw bed, changed clothes, and washed my face.
The bed was a wooden frame with straw laid down and an old futon on top of that.
Directly in front of where I'd been sleeping was the kitchen.
Nothing fancy like the system kitchen from my past life.
Basically just a counter with a stove and a cutting board.
There was at least a draining board and a barrel for storing water.
I put straw and a firestone into the stove.
Crush the firestone and it ignites.
Sitting on the stove was a frying pan.
It wasn't iron or copper—it was made of rock, thick, rough, and had a deep bottom.
The handle had several layers of cloth wrapped around it.
I remembered using a similar frying pan in my past life.
So when I found it at the tool shop, I bought it without hesitation.
I took out two each of a chunk of bacon, eggs, and bread-beans from the food jar.
I cut the bacon into reasonably thick slices and set them in the frying pan.
They overflowed the edges a bit, but I let them cook slowly.
"...Smells good."
The sizzle of the meat was nice, too.
Once it gets a sear, I flip it.
Plenty of fat there.
Alright. Done.
I pile the thick, slightly crispy bacon into a deep plate.
I put the fire out with Banish, and since there's a lot of rendered fat, it goes into the oil jar.
It's practically waste oil, but I reuse it and dispose of it after about three days.
I should mention, I also use Banish on food scraps and bulky garbage. And the urine and feces from the toilet.
Relic Banish. Incredibly convenient.
My dwelling sits in an odd little spot in the residential area of the slum district.
It's not an inn, not an apartment, and not a rental.
It's a house I own.
To be precise, it's my uncle's house.
The reason I came to this city was because this house existed.
My dwelling is wedged between a brick building and a white stone building.
At first glance, the entrance looks like a narrow, cramped wooden storage shed.
Behind the buildings, there's an old tower.
Actually, this storage-shed entrance—
—is the entrance to both the brick and white stone buildings on either side.
From the outside, they look like completely separate buildings.
But inside, they're all connected.
There are five rooms in total.
Three above ground. One underground. One in the tower.
The old tower out back is part of the dwelling too.
I mainly use two rooms.
The bedroom in the back left. The washroom in the front left. And the toilet on the right.
The room on the right side I use as storage.
The bedroom and washroom together are full of barrels and wooden chests.
Underneath the washroom is the storeroom. The room in the tower is a small room.
It's on the top floor with a nice view.
I use two whole buildings.
And yet the dwelling isn't all that spacious, despite appearances.
That's because the surrounding walls are thick.
According to my uncle, the place is great in winter but gets stuffy in summer.
For the heat, I made sure there's good airflow from the tower.
He told me that if it still got too hot, I should make good use of the underground.
Last year I did as he said, and the summer was comfortable enough.
The underground stays cold.
So it works perfectly as a storeroom.
"...!"
I cracked two eggs into the frying pan.
Put what's in the canteen, the chilled milk, in, season with salt and pepper, and stir.
Once it's mixed reasonably well, turn on the heat and add the butter.
Stir it around with a wooden spatula as it cooks.
Once it's softly set, slide it onto the deep plate with the bacon.
All that's left is to add the bread-bean, and it's done.
"Not bad. Looks good."
Bacon and scrambled eggs.
I used to make this for breakfast often in my past life.
I still make it from time to time, even in this world.
"Still, this thing is really convenient."
The Legendary Crescent.
Its purification and temperature-control functions, especially, were just too useful.
It's only been five days since I got it, but I couldn't live without it now.
The synthesis function is still wait-and-see.
To use it properly, I'm lacking various things.
First, knowledge.
I take a bite of the bacon and some scrambled eggs.
"...I didn't need to add salt to the scrambled eggs..."
The saltiness of the bacon combined with it perfectly.
The texture is good. The crispy bite of the meat isn't bad either.
It was just salty and rich.
Thanks to that, the bread-bean went down well, but I'd made a mistake.
Between bites, I took a sip from my water flask.
Cold milk. Delicious.
"Whew."
I managed to finish eating.
I genuinely thought the salt level was a problem.
I washed the deep plate and frying pan, then brushed my teeth.
I put charcoal in my mouth and brushed with a twig from a tree called miga.
Teeth-brushing was done.
Next, daily training.
Training with the Relic Banish.
Banish was very convenient to use.
But it wasn't without danger.
Banish, which could erase anything, would cause serious injury if you made one wrong move.
That was exactly why I'd incorporated it into my daily training routine.
"............"
I manifested Banish in my dominant hand.
From its maximum size, I gradually shrank it down to about the size of a marble at my fingertip.
I repeated this three times.
"...Maybe that's a little faster..."
I play with the Banish shrunk to about the size of a marble.
It rolls amusingly along my fingertips.
But it never leaves my fingers or my hand.
After that, I finish my knife practice and daily training.
I drain the cold milk from my water bottle.
"Phew."
And with that, my usual morning is done.
What should I do today?
