March 20, 2008 · 3 min read · 565 words

On Ganmo Road in , Alice sat on the balcony of her two-story house, her chin propped in her hands, watching the passersby on the street below.

Ever since Lin Lei's last visit, Alice had been watching the street from her balcony almost every day, hoping he would come again. However...

"I have to start classes tomorrow, and I need to go today," Alice sighed to herself, giving the street one last glance.

She simply hoped Lin Lei would come to see her again, but unfortunately, he hadn't shown up once in the past ten-plus days. Just then, the voice of her good friend Nia called from below the door: "Alice, hurry up." Nia, Tony, and Kalan were waiting for her downstairs at the entrance.

Kalan, Nia, and Tony all attended the Warrior Academy. Their school was located quite close to the Weilin Magic Academy, where Alice studied. Furthermore, since all four of them lived in Fenn City, they were on good terms.

"Okay, I'm coming down."

Alice glanced once more at the street in front of the manor, then shouldered her prepared bundle and went downstairs.

...

On the evening of the third day after Alice left Fenn City, Lin Lei arrived in front of her courtyard. He looked up at the balcony of the two-story house, but there was no one there.

"Hey, what are you doing?" the middle-aged man guarding Alice's house shouted at Lin Lei.

Lin Lei turned his head, smiling as he asked, "Hello, I'm from the Weilin Magic Academy and I'm good friends with Alice. I was wondering if she's still at home?"

"Oh," the middle-aged man said with a chuckle upon hearing this. "Miss Alice left home almost three days ago. She's already at the magic academy."

"I see, thank you," Lin Lei replied politely.

Lin Lei turned and walked away along Ganmo Road, but when he reached its end, he still looked back once more at the balcony of that two-story house, a hint of helplessness in his heart.

On the street leading to .

A streak of white light flew out from the Ring, coalescing into the form of Derinkoort in his moon-white robe, with white hair and a white beard. Derinkoort looked at Lin Lei with a smile. "Lin Lei, you've fallen for Alice, haven't you?"

"Maybe a little," Lin Lei didn't deny it.

Derinkoort stroked his white beard and laughed. "I didn't expect you to finally show interest in a woman, kid. But Lin Lei, you and that Alice are in different magic schools, living in two different places. It'll be quite difficult to make any real progress in your relationship."

"I know. We'll see what happens. If it's meant to be, it'll be. If not, so be it." Images of his time with Alice involuntarily surfaced in Lin Lei's mind.

There was her panicked look under the Bloodthirsty War Boar the first time they met.

There was the shy expression on her face as they talked on the way back from the .

There was also her enchanting, moon-elf-like appearance under the moonlight.

...

"So this is first love," Lin Lei chuckled self-deprecatingly. At his age, the four brothers in the dormitory often talked about girls, and Yeru and Rein already had girlfriends.

In his heart, Lin Lei held a sliver of expectation for romance.
