Chapter 28: Taking Action

January 17, 2020 · 6 min read · 1,269 words

One month later. The supreme plane known as 'Hell,' within the Blue Peak Continent's Youlan Prefecture, at the Tianji Mountain Range.

"Haha…" A child of two or three years old was running happily across the grass. Hogg and Lina were nearby, playing with the little one.

Lin Lei, Wotton, and Bei Bei sat together, watching the scene from a distance.

"Brother, look at Father… Ever since Mother came back, he's been so much happier," Wotton said with a smile. "In the past, even when Father saw us, he was occasionally cheerful. But he was always thinking about Mother, and the whole man seemed somewhat listless. Now things are different."

"They really are," Lin Lei said with a gentle smile and a soft sigh.

Mother—Lina—had been back for a month now. During this month, the greatest progress had been in the relationship between their mother and father.

In her subconscious, Lina already trusted Hogg deeply. Naturally, in their interactions, the two drew closer with ease, as though things simply fell into place.

But with Lin Lei and Wotton, Lina's acceptance was clearly more difficult. Although she often smiled at them and the relationship had grown somewhat warmer, her attitude toward the two of them was noticeably different from how she treated Hogg. Perhaps it was because when Lina had died in her previous life, Lin Lei had only been four years old, and Wotton had been just an infant.

In Lina's subconscious mind, she simply had no image of what Lin Lei and Wotton looked like as adults.

"After a while, Father will take Mother back to the Yulan Continent. When she sees Wushan, sees the old home, Mother will probably remember something," Wotton said.

Because of Lin Lei's special standing on the Yulan Continent, the family's ancestral home had been kept in excellent condition all these years.

"When that time comes, I'll go back together with Father and Mother," Lin Lei said with a light smile. "I need to start opening a Wind System divine plane as well."

"Boss, I'm coming too," Bei Bei said eagerly. "I really want to watch you open a divine plane, Boss."

"I'm only going back with my Wind System Chief God clone. The other clones aren't coming," Lin Lei said.

Just then, Lin Lei looked up involuntarily, sensing something. "Pasha is coming?"

Through his divine sense, Lin Lei discovered that the Blood Peak Chief God was heading this way.

"You all stay here. I'm heading back first," Lin Lei said. With a shift of his figure, he instantly arrived at the courtyard where he normally cultivated. Lin Lei's residence was off-limits—even the maids were not allowed to enter without permission.

Lin Lei sat down by the stone table and waited briefly before that blood-robed figure descended from the sky. It was none other than the Blood Peak Chief God, Pasha.

"Please, sit down, Pasha," Lin Lei said with a smile.

"Lin Lei, it's only been a month or two, and this is already the second time I've come to see you," the Blood Peak Chief God said with a laugh. "By the way, last time I was discussing matters related to the tenth Planar War with you. It seemed like you ran into some trouble. Is it resolved now?" Back then, Lin Lei's expression had suddenly turned ugly, and he had lost his composure. The Blood Peak Chief God had naturally noticed.

That was why he had left immediately without reaching any agreement with Lin Lei.

"My apologies. I did run into some trouble last time," Lin Lei said with a smile, reaching out to pour wine for both the Blood Peak Chief God and himself. "But it's all resolved now."

"Good to hear," the Blood Peak Chief God said. "Lin Lei, when are you going out to find Chief God emissaries?"

"Pasha, you certainly seem very interested in this matter," Lin Lei said, raising his cup in a slight toast toward the Blood Peak Chief God. The Blood Peak Chief God gave a helpless smile and raised his own cup. The two drank together. The Blood Peak Chief God said, "It's not that I'm personally interested. It's a task the Destruction Sovereign assigned to me. He knows that you and I have a good relationship, after all."

Lin Lei nodded slightly.

"Besides, the other Chief Gods already have emissaries for the most part. Those emissaries were carefully selected by their respective Chief Gods. The Chief Gods aren't willing to send their emissaries off to die on a suicide mission. And even if the Chief Gods were willing, the emissaries themselves probably wouldn't accept it," the Blood Peak Chief God said.

A Chief God's orders were not followed one hundred percent of the time.

If a Chief God told an emissary to go die, would the emissary actually do it?

"Would I send my own emissary to their death?" Lin Lei countered.

"Lin Lei," the Blood Peak Chief God quickly said, "that's not what we mean. You simply go out and pick some emissaries. You tell them—to become my emissary, you must undergo a trial. Go to the Planar Battlefield and face the trial. You give them a Chief God Artifact first! If they survive, they become true emissaries. If they die… you just go find new ones later."

The Blood Peak Chief God grinned. "I believe quite a few people would be willing to take that gamble for the chance to become a Chief God emissary."

"You're sending those people to their deaths," Lin Lei said, really wanting to curse at them.

"They go of their own free will," the Blood Peak Chief God said with a satisfied smile. "We won't be forcing them."

And that was true—they didn't force anyone.

Those who were already Chief God emissaries certainly wouldn't risk their lives for a bit of Chief God energy.

But those who weren't yet emissaries had a very high chance of taking the gamble, all for the chance to become one and obtain a Chief God Artifact.

The gods who dared to venture into the supreme planes and divine planes mostly possessed a spirit of adventure. At critical moments, they would bet everything. If they succeeded, they would possess a Chief God Artifact and become Chief God emissaries—status even higher than an ordinary Asura. They would become peak existences among gods. If they lost, they perished.

"The other Chief Gods already have their emissaries, so there are no open slots," the Blood Peak Chief God said with a sigh. "But you have them—six slots, in fact. In this war, the number of Commander-level figures who enter will be extremely small! So, six Chief God emissaries going in as vanguards—acting as the tip of the spear. As long as they're not foolish enough to charge head-on, those six will be able to play an enormous role."

Lin Lei nodded slightly.

Commander-level figures certainly played a major role in a Planar War. But those who mattered most were the Grand Perfection experts.

"Why don't you find a few Grand Perfection experts instead? They'd be even more useful," Lin Lei said.

"In the past, the Grand Perfection experts weren't afraid, but this time… Lin Lei, every single person who enters will possess 'Chief God energy,'" the Blood Peak Chief God said with a laugh. "Using Chief God energy in full-powered attacks, especially in mass assaults—even a Grand Perfection expert faces real danger to their life. Those Grand Perfection experts—what could the Chief Gods possibly offer to lure them in? Without sufficient conditions, they won't agree to go."

Lin Lei nodded in agreement as well.
