Chapter Fifty-Eight: Lin Lei's Strength!
The two passages of the Star River blazed with seven-colored light shooting into the sky.
Soldiers from both the Dark Divine World camp and the Light Divine World camp were engaged in frenzied slaughter within the passages. From high above, one could see long serpentine columns of troops continuously pouring into the Star River corridors from both banks. The Star River passages were nothing less than meat grinders — meat grinders for Highgods!
In the chaos, it was no longer possible for a thousand soldiers to act in unison. They had to rely on divine sense to coordinate, letting individual teams of a hundred operate together.
At this moment, Lin Lei and his companions were immersed in the flowing tide of warriors.
Among the tens of thousands packed together like a sea of humanity, the four of them were utterly unremarkable. Yet even so, some enemy squads had locked onto them.
"Soul attack! Target: the eleven people thirty meters ahead!" The captain of a hundred-man squad issued a unified command through divine sense. Instantly, the eighty-two remaining soldiers in the squad unleashed a coordinated soul attack — transparent and lightning-fast, like nearly a hundred flying daggers hurtling toward the eleven people around Lin Lei's group.
Lei Sijing let out a snort of contempt.
"Looking to die!" A burst of purple light suddenly radiated from the space between Lei Sijing's brows.
The purple light swept outward in an arc, washing over the enemy squad. But the surrounding troops were simply too densely packed. Lei Sijing's attack even caught two soldiers from their own side, while striking fifty-three enemy soldiers. Of those fifty-three, fewer than half actually belonged to that particular hundred-man squad.
That was just how congested the battlefield was.
Of the fifty-five people caught in the attack, fifty-three died on the spot. Only two survived.
Fifty-three emblems clattered to the ground.
"Emblems!" The surrounding soldiers immediately scrambled to grab them. In the blink of an eye, every emblem had been snatched up. But across the battlefield, emblems kept dropping — every single one representing a life extinguished.
"That's not good. Move, now!" The squad captain's face went pale with fright, and he hastily pulled his team away in retreat.
"Not bad at all," Bei Bei said with a grin.
"Most of them hadn't even reached the Seven-Star Demon level. Killing them was easy. That move of mine wasn't particularly powerful — just a wide-area attack," Lei Sijing replied, completely unconcerned. "Everyone, pay close attention. Figure out who the commanders are. We can't just stand here — it'll draw attention. That was just a hundred-man squad. Once attention is on us, a whole cluster of squads might coordinate against us."
Lei Sijing was experienced. He knew you couldn't stay in one spot for too long.
"Follow me," Lin Lei said.
The moment Lin Lei spoke, Lei Sijing, Bei Bei, and Lei Hong followed without the slightest objection, staying at Lin Lei's side as they pressed forward.
Though the Star River passages were drenched in blood and mad with carnage, Lin Lei moved through them as casually as a leisurely stroll through a garden. Any squad that charged toward them was met with an overwhelming repulsive force, flung aside before they could even get close.
"Lei Sijing, your Amethyst Space is truly impressive," a voice laughed from nearby.
Lin Lei and the others turned to look. It was Etrich. Etrich wore a dark-gold robe today, and he too seemed perfectly at ease amid the chaos. He glanced at Lin Lei: "Lei Sijing, take care of your friends. This place is extremely dangerous. A Seven-Star Demon can die just like that."
With that, Etrich's form flickered, leaving behind an afterimage as his actual body appeared far away.
In the torrent of battle, Etrich moved with the ease and agility of a fish.
"That Etrich, what kind of look was that? He didn't even notice that the gravity field was set up by Boss," Bei Bei huffed indignantly.
"Never mind him," Lin Lei said, his gaze fixed forward. "We're approaching the central section of the Star River passages — where the fighting is the most savage. I've already spotted several enemy commanders. Let's move." Lin Lei was as calm as ever. One's state of mind was closely tied to one's strength.
If you were weak, you'd be trembling with fear, moving with utmost caution. Like those ordinary soldiers — one misstep and you were dead.
If you were strong, like Etrich, everything was effortless. All you had to do was watch for standing out too much and stay alert for enemy commanders — avoid being surrounded and attacked.
And at Lin Lei's level, it was nothing more than a walk in the park.
"Lin Lei, look ahead!" Lei Sijing suddenly exclaimed.
Lin Lei's gaze swept forward. Several li away, a figure in black robes was being besieged by over a thousand soldiers from the Light camp. They launched a massive combined soul attack all at once — and among them, some had activated innate divine abilities. The black-robed figure dodged the first wave with astonishing speed, but still took hits from over a hundred strikes. The damage, however, was minimal.
But immediately after, the thousand-strong force unleashed a coordinated material attack.
"Rumble~~~" Over a thousand fighters, most of them at the Six-Star Demon level with several Seven-Star Demons among them, struck as one. The devastation swept across the black-robed figure like an apocalypse, reducing him to ash on the spot. A few nearby soldiers were also caught in the collateral damage.
A divine spark, a black necklace, a spatial ring, and a blood-colored emblem tumbled to the ground.
From far away, Lin Lei and the others watched this scene unfold, each silently shaking their heads.
"That 'Naporte' fellow really had bad luck," Lei Sijing scoffed, transmitting his voice to Lin Lei and the others. "He must have drawn the enemy's attention earlier, but the fool didn't realize it. With that many people in the Light camp, it's easy to rally a dozen squads to gang up on him. Just two consecutive attacks — one soul attack, one material attack — and he was finished! Having a soul defense Divine Artifact didn't help him at all."
Soul attacks and material attacks were both blindingly fast.
Even a commander with exceptional speed could only dodge a soul or material attack at close range by a meter or two at best. Only a Perfect Domain powerhouse could evade by tens of meters, or even distort space, rendering them immune to swarming attacks.
"Even commanders are in danger during the Great Battle," Bei Bei murmured with clicking tongue.
Whether in the Underworld or Hell, assembling over a thousand Six-Star Demons for a coordinated attack was extremely difficult. But during this Great Battle, every combatant was a Highgod. Forming a thousand-man striking force was trivial. So... you couldn't attract too much attention. If you stood out, you had to run!
"Forget about the others," Lin Lei said. His gaze suddenly locked onto something in the distance. "I've spotted a great target!"
"Oh?" Lei Sijing, Bei Bei, and Lei Hong all looked toward where he was staring.
"It's them!" Lei Sijing's eyes lit up, a fierce gleam flickering within. "This time, we're not letting them escape!"
