If Lin Lei's gaze had left Ulterich somewhat displeased, then Bei Bei's tone of voice and contemptuous look sent him into a rage.
"That brat in the straw hat!" Ulterich's face darkened as he was about to shout.
"Ulterich, don't be rash." The white-haired elder beside him sent a telepathic message.
"What is it?" Ulterich turned to look at the white-haired elder. "Reskin can act arrogant toward me all he wants, but who does that brat in the straw hat think he is? I've never heard of such a person before." Surviving until the end of the Planar Battlefield had already proven one's strength. Ulterich was not someone who took insults lying down.
One word out of line meant death!
"You didn't cross the Star River, so you don't know the identity of that straw-hatted youth yet." The white-haired elder transmitted solemnly. "On the Church of Light阵营 side of the battlefield, that straw-hatted boy's reputation has spread everywhere!"
"Oh?" Ulterich's pupils contracted. "What identity?"
"The second God-Eating Mouse besides Beleute!" the white-haired elder said gravely.
Ulterich's expression changed dramatically. "What? A God-Eating Mouse! How is that possible? Wasn't Beleute the only God-Eating Mouse? How can there be another one?"
"I've ventured on the Star River side, so how would I not know? Just ask any Commander who has been over there—they'll tell you that the God-Eating Mouse is a youth wearing a straw hat. You'd better be careful." The white-haired elder shot him a glance. "If something happens, don't say I didn't warn you!"
With that, the white-haired elder returned to his own courtyard.
"A God-Eating Mouse?" Ulterich glanced at the courtyard where Lin Lei and the others had entered, then let out a low hum and departed.
The courtyards arranged for the Commanders in the military camp were quite spacious, with plenty of rooms.
"Not bad, not bad!" Reskin stepped into the great hall and looked around with an approving nod. "It seems the people running this camp purchased some decorations before anyone arrived." The great hall was furnished with various decorative pieces, and even the long table and chairs were made of wood—clearly not crafted from materials found in the Planar Battlefield.
"Lin Lei, we have nothing to do right now, so feel free to rest. I expect the Commanders stationed at this camp will come to pay their respects soon. Some of the Commanders living nearby will probably visit as well. We just need to handle it politely. As for the great battle, there's still over a month." Reskin immediately walked toward a side room. "I'll be staying in this one for now."
Lin Lei and the others each chose their own rooms.
Just as Reskin had predicted, the moment they settled in, Commanders from the camp soon came to visit. Afterward, Lin Lei and the group also received the Commanders who lived nearby. Of course, they did not publicly reveal Lin Lei's true strength.
In the blink of an eye, half a month passed.
In the courtyard, Lin Lei and Bei Bei sat facing each other.
"Bei Bei, why the long face? You look like you want to say something but keep holding back. Just speak your mind." Lin Lei could tell at a glance that Bei Bei had something on his mind.
Bei Bei took a deep breath.
"Boss, actually I'm kind of conflicted about something." Bei Bei looked at Lin Lei.
"Hmm? Conflicted about what?" Lin Lei asked.
Bei Bei lowered his head and rested it on the table, staring at the surface as he said softly, "Boss, there was actually another reason I wanted you to come to the great battle. I've been wrestling with it in my heart—whether or not to have my father and mother resurrected too."
Lin Lei was stunned. How had he forgotten about this?
Over the years, Bei Bei's carefree demeanor had made Lin Lei not think much of it. But Bei Bei's feelings were different from his own.
"I've never met my parents. I don't know what they looked like, and my memories are all muddled. They don't have a clear image in my mind. I don't really miss them that much. I've long grown accustomed to life without parents, but… it's still a regret."
Bei Bei murmured to himself in a soft voice. "In this life, I never wanted to dwell on much. But when you decided to save your brothers and loved ones and came to this Planar Battlefield, Boss, I was tempted. Should I try to find my parents too? But I knew it was already difficult enough for you to collect Commander emblems, and I didn't want to add to your burden. Whether to search for my parents—I was also indecisive about it, so I never planned to bring it up."
"But now that your strength has grown, Boss, collecting two more Commander emblems won't be hard. So… the thought came back."
Bei Bei raised his head and looked at Lin Lei.
"Bei Bei, I'm sorry." Lin Lei said apologetically.
He truly felt ashamed. Bei Bei was his sworn brother in life and death, risking everything for him in the Planar Battlefield. And yet he had forgotten about Bei Bei's parents!
"Don't say that, Boss." Bei Bei shook his head. "Actually, whether to search for my parents—I'm still a bit hesitant. After all, I've never seen them… and I don't know whether the undead spirits formed after my parents' deaths are still alive or gone. If I could meet them, how would I even face them? They probably wouldn't recognize me even if they saw me!"
Bei Bei's parents had never seen him grow up, never seen the day he took human form. Even if they were alive and had their memories restored, they wouldn't recognize Bei Bei.
"Strangers meeting again…" Bei Bei's heart was truly tangled in complexity.
Bei Bei had originally planned to let it go—parents had their own fate, and he wouldn't force anything. Besides, at the time, collecting Commander emblems had genuinely been difficult for Lin Lei. But now things were different.
"Stop worrying about it. Leave this to me. I'll get two more Commander emblems!" Lin Lei promised.
"Mm." Bei Bei nodded.
"Whew!" Bei Bei straightened up and let out a breath. "Ugh, I'm done thinking about it! They're my parents after all—if we can meet, then let's meet! Heh heh, I bet they'd be happy and proud to know they have a kid who became a God-Eating Mouse." Bei Bei seemed to cast off his troubles and became carefree once more.
Lin Lei smiled, though in his heart he had already made his decision. In this great battle, he would definitely obtain two more Commander emblems.
Lin Lei and Bei Bei had been through life and death together all this way. Bei Bei could risk death for Lin Lei, and Lin Lei would do the same. Moreover, at Lin Lei's current level, making him die would truly be difficult.
