Chapter 52: The Path to the Peak

January 17, 2020 · 6 min read · 1,129 words

In his heart, Lin Lei truly wanted to find out just how powerful he really was. Bluefire, a Perfection-level powerhouse, was the perfect whetstone. Anyone else wouldn't dare face the current Lin Lei in combat.

"Very well." Lin Lei nodded with a smile.

Beside them, Lei Sijing and Bei Bei were both quite excited. Lei Sijing, ever the one to stir up trouble, said eagerly: "Haha, one at Perfection, one with an unprecedented four-clone soul mutation. Don't hold back—give us a real fight to watch. Even if you destroy this cave dwelling, it'd be a small matter."

But Lin Lei chuckled: "No need. This battle is merely to test our strength. Mr. Rillin, let's both use only our physical bodies, paired with our Dominion. No divine power, no Chief God's power."

"That works." Bluefire also thought Lin Lei's proposal was a good one. If Lin Lei turned out to be too strong—or if he, Bluefire, was too strong—and some unexpected result occurred, that wouldn't be ideal.

Outside the mountain, on the open wasteland.

Lin Lei and Bluefire stood a hundred meters apart, while Lei Sijing, Bei Bei, and Lei Hong watched from the side with rapt attention and eager anticipation. Bei Bei's eyes were shining: "Lei Sijing, I'll bet you my boss isn't weaker than Bluefire. He might even be stronger."

"Who'd bet against you?" Lei Sijing snorted. "Look—it's starting."

Lin Lei wore a sky-blue robe; Bluefire wore a white robe. The two exchanged a smile, then moved simultaneously!

Lin Lei's figure drifted like the wind—ethereal, dreamlike—leaving several afterimages in his wake. Bluefire moved with teleportation-like speed. When the two began moving, the three spectators were startled: "Bei Bei—they're only using physical strength? Lin Lei's speed is this absurd too?"

At this moment, neither Lin Lei nor Bluefire moved as fast as Bluefire had when he used Chief God's power to rush to Lin Lei's aid at full speed. Back then, a single movement had carried him several miles.

Now Lin Lei and the others relied on nothing but their bodies and Dominion.

"What a wonderful feeling," Lin Lei thought with delight. "Just physical strength plus this Will of Dominion already makes my speed far greater than before. If I used divine power, I probably wouldn't fall far behind Bluefire at all." His control over the surrounding world made his movements effortless.

Their speed was astonishing. In the instant they moved, they clashed—both throwing punches almost simultaneously.

"BOOM!" Lin Lei's fist cut through the air like a thunder dragon streaking across the sky, producing a deep rumble. Space itself grew chaotic, and crack after crack of spatial tears appeared.

"CRACK!" Bluefire's punch erupted with explosive force—his striking speed was even faster than Lin Lei's. A faint red glow could be glimpsed from the blur.

Two seemingly ordinary fists, with no attempt to dodge, collided head-on.

"Phut!" A muffled, muted sound.

"CRASH!" At the point of impact, space could no longer withstand that terrible force. Seven or eight spatial tears ripped open.

Both Lin Lei and Bluefire involuntarily took a step back.

Evenly matched!

"Ha ha, wonderful, truly wonderful! Lin Lei, there's no need for us to hold back our divine power either. Let's have a proper, exhilarating fight!" The usually refined Bluefire now showed a rare burst of passion, his eyes blazing.

"Then you'd better be careful," Lin Lei teased with a grin. "My fused divine power isn't much weaker than Chief God's power."

"Whether I need to be careful remains to be seen," Bluefire laughed. "You have your fused divine power, but I'll just use Chief God's power directly."

After that single punch, Lin Lei understood there wasn't much difference between them. In that case, there was no point hiding even their divine power. Without it, the fight simply wouldn't be satisfying enough.

The Planar Battlefield's chilling wind swept across Lin Lei's robes, but in Lin Lei's eyes, only Bluefire stood across from him. "All these years, Grandpa Derinkoort—I've finally reached the peak of a god. The true peak. Before me stands a Perfection-level Highgod." Battle intent surged within him. Having reached this pinnacle, Lin Lei could barely contain his excitement.

"BOOM!" The dark green divine power inside Lin Lei surged and coiled through his body like a writhing dragon.

Lin Lei's gaze turned razor-sharp in an instant.

"WHOOSH!" Afterimages streaked across the air, but Lin Lei had already engaged Bluefire.

The space of the Planar Battlefield trembled. Terrible spatial tears split open one after another. Earlier, when Lin Lei and Bluefire had relied solely on physical strength infused with Dominion, they'd only produced small spatial cracks. Now each one was a massive rift. The two blurred figures—nearly invisible in their speed—clashed again and again as spatial tears in the heavens appeared and vanished.

Lei Sijing, Lei Hong, and Bei Bei stared at the spectacle in a daze.

Letting two Perfection-level powerhouses fight without restraint? That was an exceedingly rare sight.

"This... this..." Bei Bei stood gaping, unable to find words.

The heaven-and-earth space before them seemed to tremble under the battle of these two extraordinary powerhouses—cracking apart and repairing itself ceaselessly, as though the vast expanse of the world might collapse under the force of their clash. At this moment, Lei Sijing and the others truly felt the gap between themselves and these titans!

Lin Lei and Bluefire were giants. They were mere infants.

"So powerful." Lei Sijing swallowed hard, his eyes fixed wide open.

"The strength of Perfection!" Lei Hong held his breath, his gaze locked on the churning space before them. "And Lin Lei—he's not the slightest bit weaker than Mr. Rillin."

"No wonder fighting someone at Perfection felt like child's play," Lei Sijing sighed. Back when the four of them had encountered Byer, they'd been completely toyed with, with no ability to resist at all. It was only because Bei Bei's defenses were freakishly strong that they'd escaped by a hair's breadth. But if Lei Sijing hadn't desperately protected Bei Bei, Byer would have banished Bei Bei into the spatial storms as well.

Provoke someone at Perfection?

Even if you had three Chief God artifacts and seemed invincible, a Perfection-level powerhouse could still banish you into the spatial storms. Unless a Chief God came to rescue you—and even for a Chief God, that was no simple matter.

"Only when two powerhouses at the same level fight can they display their full strength," Bei Bei marveled. "Boss, that was incredible."

"It really is strange, though," Bei Bei suddenly frowned. "That space shattered to pieces, yet it repaired itself in an instant. And it didn't collapse. Truly bizarre. And the strangest part is... Boss and Bluefire aren't affected by the pull of those massive spatial tears at all. They're not being sucked into the spatial storms."
