Chapter Fifteen: The Choice

Bei Bei glared resentfully in the direction the purple-robed figure had departed. The purple-robed man's normal speed already exceeded his own, and once using a God's power, he was far beyond Bei Bei's reach. Bei Bei could only watch helplessly as the other got away. If it weren't for being slower, Bei Bei wouldn't have had to resort to his innate ability from hundreds of meters away either.

"You got lucky!"

Bei Bei cautiously scanned his surroundings, then shot towards Lin Lei like a swift arrow.

"Boss, are you alright?" Bei Bei asked with concern.

Lin Lei had opened his eyes by now and cast a glance around. "The commotion just now might have attracted others. Bei Bei, let's get out of here first!" Among the commanders in the Planar Battlefield, Lin Lei was only considered low-level, and Bei Bei was at best mid-level. They didn't yet have the strength to openly challenge any opponent!

*Whoosh!* The two transformed into streaks of illusion and vanished from the spot in an instant.

They had barely been gone for a moment when a figure shrouded in black robes appeared in mid-air. It paused briefly, looked around, and then left as well.

Within the Planar Battlefield, anyone who dared fly in the open sky was among the top-tier commanders, confident in their ability to handle any opponent. After all, in the air, anyone on the ground could easily spot them. People like Lin Lei and Bei Bei always moved along the ground.

Inside a hidden cave, Lin Lei and Bei Bei both let out a sigh of relief.

"Bei Bei, didn't catch up to that guy?" Lin Lei asked with a smile.

"Couldn't catch him! The bastard was hiding far away from the start. Boss, your Blackstone Space expanded outwards, but he slipped out of range almost immediately. Even when I used my 'Innate Ability', it didn't reach him in time." Bei Bei was still fuming. "What a despicable move, hiding so far back for an ambush. He didn't even dare get close!"

Lin Lei shook his head. "This is the Planar Battlefield, not a one-on-one duel. Everyone has different strategies! Besides, it's not just the Dark Divine World and the Light Divine World fighting in this Planar War. Super strong experts from other planes might even lend their aid to one side or the other. So... the powerhouses here come from the four Supreme High Worlds and the seven Great Divine Worlds. This is the most terrifying battlefield; it's only right for the opponent to be cautious."

Bei Bei also felt the pressure.

Besides the Planar Battlefield, where else could these peak powerhouses gather, using every means to slaughter each other?

"I wonder how many commanders are here," Bei Bei muttered.

"I'd say the Dark Divine World and the Light Divine World each have maybe twenty or thirty commanders of their own. It's the others who bring more! A Supreme High World might contribute a dozen, a Divine World around ten. That adds up to nearly a hundred." Lin Lei sighed. "And that's probably an underestimate. Besides the commanders, some strong experts who once held the titles of City Lord or Baron might have stepped down from their positions. But their strength hasn't diminished. They might also be here!"

Bei Bei nodded.

Indeed... those people entered as ordinary soldiers.

Just like Lin Lei and Bei Bei—Bei Bei entered as an ordinary soldier, but in terms of strength, is he weak? By the same logic, while the true commanders in the Planar Battlefield might number only around a hundred, those with commander-level strength are more than that.

Over countless years, many peak powerhouses have stepped down from their positions either because they were outmatched or simply because they didn't care for the power struggle. Their strength should not be underestimated.

"The ones who can still act arrogantly in the Planar War are just a handful," Lin Lei said with a wry smile. Those arrogant enough without sufficient strength were already dead. Anyone still acting high and mighty now must be at the level of Danningdon. "So, that person who ambushed me had excellent tactics. One failed strike, and he fled immediately."

"Too insidious," Bei Bei muttered.

"Insidious, yes, but safe," Lin Lei took a deep breath. "Bei Bei, I think we should adopt his strategy. Find a target, launch an ambush... and retreat immediately if we fail. No hesitation."

"Heh heh, being ambushed feels terrible, but ambushing others feels great!" Bei Bei's eyes lit up.

Lin Lei chuckled helplessly.

Who would willingly ambush others? But there was no choice. Fighting openly and honorably meant certain death against a stronger foe.

"We'll launch the ambush together," Lin Lei said. He had already formed a plan in his mind on the way back. "When we find a target, Bei Bei, you use your innate ability 'Devour the God', while I'll immediately launch a physical attack. Very few can block my 'Afterimage' strike!"

Lin Lei was very confident.

Bei Bei's 'Devour the God' targeted the soul and divine spark, while Lin Lei focused on physical damage.

"Bei Bei, against what kind of person would your 'Devour the God' fail?" Lin Lei asked immediately.

He needed to understand the limits of Bei Bei's innate ability to plan better.

"Oh. Grandpa mentioned this briefly. Those who have reached the Perfection level should be able to resist my innate ability," Bei Bei said.

Lin Lei nodded. "Anything else?"

"Those with soul-defensive divine artifacts should be able to block it too," Bei Bei said, then grinned. "But don't worry, very few people possess divine artifacts. Even among commanders, probably only a portion have one. And divine artifacts come in three major categories. Soul-defensive ones are particularly rare. Few people have them."

Lin Lei was not surprised by Bei Bei's answer.

A soul-defensive divine artifact was forged by a High God to protect one's own soul! If a High God used a divine artifact to protect their soul, it was only natural it could withstand Bei Bei's attack.

"Bei Bei, if the opponent uses a God's power, can they block it?" Lin Lei asked. This was his most crucial concern.

"Heh heh, using a God's power won't help them block it," Bei Bei said confidently. "My innate ability 'Devour the God' is all-pervasive. Unless the soul defense is absolutely flawless, even the slightest flaw will allow my innate ability to seep in, lock onto the soul and divine spark!"

Lin Lei nodded slightly.

"It seems I would have trouble blocking this attack too," Lin Lei said with a smile.

"Heh heh." Bei Bei nodded proudly. "Unless, Boss, you completely repair that soul-defensive divine artifact!"

"Completely repairing it is easier said than done," Lin Lei said with a smile.

After this conversation, Lin Lei was fully aware of the terrifying power of Bei Bei's innate ability. Any commander who wasn't at Perfection or didn't possess a soul-defensive divine artifact would likely be unable to escape this attack. The only method was to do as that purple-robed man had done: stay out of range from the very beginning.

Once caught within the attack range, it would be over.
