Chapter Fourteen: Sain

This bald, black-armored, stout man glanced at George and then went to rest. He was quite satisfied with appointing George as the steward. First, George was only a lower god and posed no threat. Second, George was truly competent, managing the forces of this entire mountain range in an orderly fashion. He now believed that not killing George back then was a very wise decision.

Not many died this time, and George quickly made the arrangements.

Night. Within the mountain range castle, George stood before a window. Through it, he could see that crescent of a blood-red moon. That bloody moon reminded him: this was the Netherworld! Not his homeland, the Yulan Continent.

"Days like this are going to continue," George thought to himself. "I don't know how things have changed on the Yulan Continent over these thousand years. Given that Odin fellow's domineering behavior, I'm afraid even Boss Yeru, or even Dragonblood Castle, might be in danger."

George was a very calm person; no matter what circumstances he encountered, he could quickly adapt.

In the Netherworld, there was a universally known fact—the undead do not retain memories of their past lives. Only when they undergo a metamorphosis into gods does their soul undergo the baptism of the laws of heaven and earth, and at that moment, the long-sealed memories of their previous life are fully revealed.

When George died, he was already at the Saint Realm.

After his soul was drawn into the Netherworld and became an undead, the strength of the undead was determined by the soul. George's soul was a Saint Realm soul, so after transforming into an undead, he was also a Saint Realm undead. When he was initially a Saint Realm undead, George had no memories of his past life. He only knew he had to kill other undead, devour their souls, to make himself stronger!

Strengthen himself, constantly bolster his soul. Then, step by step, he comprehended... and finally, he broke through and became a god!

Only at the moment he became a god did he finally know the memories of his past life.

He knew his name from before—George.

As a pillar minister of the Yulan Empire back in the day, George was far more adept at dealing with people and navigating situations than Lin Lei. During his youth at the Ernst Magic Academy, George was skilled at making friends, and he had moved through the official circles of the Yulan Empire like a fish in water. Now he had entered this den of robbers.

Perhaps in cultivation or combat, the robbers were skilled. But in matters of management, they were far inferior to George. His role as steward was something everyone accepted without dissent.

"Right now, the primary goal is to accumulate enough wealth to buy a house within a city," George already had a plan in mind. "Then, I can safely cultivate there! No need to waste my energy here." As the steward of this mountain range, his status was second only to the leader of this particular branch. He could very well have obtained and refined a middle god's divine spark, but he didn't want to.

He wanted to achieve godhood independently!

Here, even though he couldn't openly embezzle money, with his abilities, he could quietly divert vast sums into his own spatial ring. How could anyone possibly discover it?

Once he had enough money, who would stay in this robber's den?

"It's a pity, the Third Boss is in the Asura Realm. It's difficult to see him," George sighed inwardly.

The territory of the Northern Necropolis was indeed vast. Lin Lei, traveling in his metal life, flew for several months before reaching the great grasslands outside Hede City.

"This place where the Lord of the Northern Necropolis lives looks just like a city," Bei Bei remarked, peering out the window with admiration. "There are hundreds of thousands of garrison soldiers alone. A glance reveals rows upon rows of houses—it's quite imposing. That tallest castle in the center is probably the Lord's residence."

Lin Lei also looked over. The tallest castle was easily a hundred meters high, entirely an ivory-white color.

"I hope the Lord of the Northern Necropolis hasn't gone out," Lin Lei sighed. "If he's not here, I've made this trip for nothing." He immediately put away the metal life, and he and Bei Bei flew directly toward the distance.

The residence of the Lord of the Northern Necropolis naturally had tight security, with many garrison soldiers patrolling.

"Who goes there!" Long before they got close, Lin Lei and Bei Bei heard the loud shout from the soldiers.

Lin Lei and Bei Bei continued to fly forward. Several dozen soldiers immediately rose to intercept them. The leader, a soldier with a horn on his forehead, shouted, "This is the Lord's residence! Outsiders are not permitted to intrude. You two should leave immediately."

"Please report to the Lord of the Northern Necropolis," Lin Lei said with a faint smile. "Tell him that Elder 'Lin Lei' of the Four Divine Beast Families has come to pay his respects."

"You say you're an elder of the Four Divine Beast Families, so you must be?" the leading soldier scoffed.

Lin Lei smiled calmly, and a faint, earthy-yellow glow spread from his body, directly enveloping the leading soldier. Caught off guard, the soldier couldn't help but shudder and collapse to the ground. He then gritted his teeth to stand back up, only barely managing it.

"Convinced now?" Lin Lei asked calmly, also withdrawing the earthy-yellow glow.

"Convinced, convinced," the soldier said quickly.

He was thoroughly intimidated. Just from that gravity space, he could be absolutely certain that the person before him had to be at the level of a Seven-Star Demon. "Please wait here a moment, sir... I will go report first." With that, the horned soldier turned and flew directly toward the tallest castle.

"Is your Lord currently here?" Lin Lei asked the other soldiers.

Those soldiers also understood that the two before them were no ordinary people. A bearded soldier smiled and said, "My lord, we are just ordinary garrison soldiers. If the Lord has left, we probably wouldn't even know. Once the captain returns, he'll know."

Lin Lei had no choice but to wait quietly. Bei Bei muttered, "I sure hope that Lord hasn't gone out."

A short while later—

"Lord Lin Lei! Lord Lin Lei!" The reporting soldier shouted from afar, his figure flickering as he arrived, his face full of smiles. "The Lord was very happy to learn of your arrival and has already ordered a banquet prepared. Please, Lord Lin Lei, follow me inside."

Hearing this, Lin Lei couldn't help but exchange a glance with Bei Bei.

"So hospitable?" Bei Bei murmured.

"This is a good thing," Lin Lei said with a smile, and flew forward. "Lead the way!"

On the way to the castle, Bei Bei transmitted his voice疑惑ly via divine sense, "Boss, this Lord of the Northern Necropolis seems to know you're coming and is being very polite. Could he have heard of you? Has your great name spread from the Asura Realm all the way to the Netherworld?"
