Chapter Twelve: Entering the Netherworld
Lin Lei felt his heart surge with such excitement it was almost bursting; he had never felt so thrilled. "Father can still recover his memories, he can come back to life! And there are Yeru, George, Dikexi..." The heavy feelings he'd been suppressing for days vanished in an instant. Lin Lei was overwhelmed with joy, as if the colors of heaven and earth had suddenly become brighter.
"Don't rush, none of you should rush," Beluerte said hastily.
Everyone forcibly held themselves back.
"I was just saying it casually," Beluerte continued quickly. "When ordinary people die, their souls enter the Netherworld and become undead. To find the undead that a specific person has become, even a Highgod cannot do it. Only the seven Netherworld Highgods who govern the Netherworld have the power to find them! But a Highgod is still a Highgod. If you want him to do something, will he just do it?"
A group of people were instantly rendered speechless, and Lin Lei also felt a pang of anxiety.
A Highgod was indeed aloof and above; they likely wouldn't care about a Highgod's request.
"How will we know without trying?" Lin Lei said immediately.
Whether for Yeru, George, Dikexi, or for his father, Lin Lei was unwilling to give up.
"Trying... perhaps it's possible," Dilia added quickly.
Beluerte shook his head helplessly. "To accomplish this, there are two major difficulties. First, finding and meeting a Highgod. Second, getting that Highgod to agree to help you. Both are incredibly difficult. Lin Lei, I know you want to see your father and your brothers again. But do you know where the Netherworld Highgods live?"
Lin Lei was momentarily speechless.
Where did a Highgod live? That was highly secret information. Like the Wiltrose Highgod, although he had been to the Wiltrose Mountain Range, he only learned later that the Wiltrose Highgod was there.
"It's hard to find a Highgod. Even if you find a certain place and a Highgod happens to be there, what if the Highgod doesn't want to see you?" Beluerte said. "Moreover, even if you do meet a Highgod, would a Highgod easily agree to a Highgod's request?"
The difficulty was immense!
"I want to try," Lin Lei said firmly. "No matter what, I won't give up. There are seven Netherworld Highgods in total. I will go and search for them. If one fails, I'll go find another."
Beluerte couldn't help but shake his head upon hearing this.
"Truly stubborn."
"Very well." Beluerte nodded, and with a flip of his hand, a book nearly ten centimeters thick appeared in it. "Lin Lei, this book provides a detailed introduction to the Netherworld. Take a look, so you can gain a better understanding of the Netherworld."
"Thank you." Lin Lei took the book.
In the Infernal Realm, he indeed hadn't looked into the Netherworld much, originally thinking he would never go there. Who would have thought this would happen?
"If you really are going to the Netherworld, then I'll offer you a suggestion," Beluerte said helplessly. "Although it's hardly a suggestion, you probably could have thought of it yourself. If you want to find the Netherworld Highgods, go find the Highgod's envoys first... there are quite a few Highgod envoys, you should be able to find one. If you can't, then go find the Master of a Prefecture. Those Prefecture Masters might know where the Highgod who governs them resides."
Lin Lei nodded.
Although finding a Highgod's envoy or a Prefecture Master might be a way to locate a Highgod, would those people be willing to tell you?
"That token I lent to you, keep carrying it," Beluerte said. "After all, this token represents the Bloodfeast Highgod. Having this token might make your journey a bit easier."
Lin Lei's eyes lit up.
Right, the token! It was bestowed upon Beluerte by the Bloodfeast Highgod. With this thing, perhaps a Netherworld Highgod would listen to him speak.
"Grandpa, thank you," Bei Bei said with a beaming smile.
"Otherwise, you'd have called your grandpa stingy," Beluerte said with a laugh.
Bei Bei grinned. The matter of going to the Netherworld was now unquestionably settled.
"Thank you, Lord Beluerte," Dilia also expressed her gratitude.
Beluerte smiled. "Alright, you all stay here then. I'll head back first. If anything happens, come find me in the Dark Forest." With that, his figure flickered, turning into a black ray of light and disappearing.
In mid-air.
Beluerte turned his head to look back at Dragonblood Castle from afar, a meaningful smile touching his lips. "Just as I expected! Only, I don't know if this kid has what it takes." Then, smilingly, he flew toward the Dark Forest.
Upon receiving this news, everyone in Dragonblood Castle was filled with excitement. But immediately after, they also felt the pressure. To seek out a Highgod and ask for their help was simply too difficult. They began to worry if Lin Lei could pull it off. They also worried... if a Highgod might fly into a rage and kill Lin Lei!
"A Highgod... probably wouldn't be so whimsical with their temper, right?" Wendy asked worriedly.
"Don't talk nonsense," Dilia admonished immediately.
Bei Bei smiled confidently. "Don't worry. If the Netherworld Highgods see that me and the boss have the Bloodfeast Highgod's token, they probably won't kill us." Although Bei Bei seemed confident on the surface, he was still uneasy inside. After all... would a Netherworld Highgod necessarily give face to the Bloodfeast Highgod?
Perhaps the Netherworld Highgod they happened to meet held a grudge against the Bloodfeast Highgod.
No one could say for certain!
"A Highgod considers themselves above all. As long as we don't offend them, they won't lower themselves to kill us," Lin Lei said calmly. "This time, going to the Netherworld, it'll just be me and Bei Bei." Lin Lei and Bei Bei had already communicated soul-to-soul; this trip to the Netherworld was unpredictable.
Just the two of them setting out meant they wouldn't fear much. But if they brought others along, they might not be able to protect everyone in dangerous situations.
"Mm," Dilia nodded obediently.
"Bei Bei..." Nissi was a bit reluctant to part.
"I'll be back soon," Bei Bei chuckled. At this moment, Lin Lei's body also split into two, and a Lin Lei with fiery red hair stepped forward.
