Chapter Fifty-Two: Two Drops of Highgod Power

Puslo, Gasleisen, and the large group of people were all speechless for a moment.

“Grandpa!”

Bei Bei’s face was full of joy as he spoke quickly. “I know why they’re confused. Because they all say… that according to legend, only a Highgod who has reached Perfection can perfectly control Highgod Power.”

Belut swept his gaze over the large group of people in the room.

“Legend… you all know it’s just a legend,” Belut said with a faint smile. “It’s true that a Perfected Highgod can do it, but does that mean no other Highgod possibly can? You’re too quick to generalize!”

Legends, after all, are just legends!

Reality doesn’t necessarily align completely with them.

“Belut, impressive, truly impressive. No wonder a great Highgod treats you so well,” Puslo said with a smile. A Highgod Emissary to a Highgod is, after all, just a subordinate. If a Highgod Emissary dies, the Highgod can simply take on another.

But some Emissaries, the Highgod will value highly, consider very important.

Like a Perfected Highgod. Although Belut is not a Perfected Highgod, the Highgod still holds him in very high regard.

“Don’t talk about me. Your Highgod values you quite a lot as well,” Belut said with a smile.

Puslo couldn’t help but laugh upon hearing this. That Fire System Highgod had once sparred with him personally, comparing everything from material attacks to soul attacks, until finally the Fire System Highgod revealed his identity. For a Highgod to set aside his status and spar with Puslo like that, of course he wouldn’t treat Puslo as just an ordinary pawn.

While Belut and Puslo conversed, the four clan heads and the various elders nearby could only listen, not daring to interrupt. After all, both of them were Highgod Emissaries.

Belut turned his head and glanced at Lin Lei, then instructed Gasleisen’s group: “Alright, you all shouldn’t crowd in here. Lin Lei and his wife surely have many private matters to discuss. Everyone else, please leave.”

Gasleisen and his group only then came to their senses and hurriedly nodded.

“City Lord, since you’ve come to our place, and Lin Lei’s wife has just been healed, tonight, our Four Divine Beast Families will hold a banquet to celebrate. How about it?” Gasleisen suggested.

“Hmm, alright. Send someone over later. For now, I still want to chat with Bei Bei,” Belut said with a smile, looking at Bei Bei and ruffling his head.

Bei Bei, however, tilted his head to the side to dodge.

“City Lord!” Suddenly, a clear, cold voice rang out. “There is something I wish to ask of the City Lord.”

“Sister,” Gasleisen sent via voice transmission, “we should leave quickly.” Clearly, Belut had already asked them to leave, so staying any longer would be overstepping.

Belut frowned in displeasure and looked over. The speaker was indeed the Great Elder of the Azure Dragon Clan. The Great Elder spoke solemnly: “City Lord, this time, besides Lin Lei’s wife who fell unconscious, there are many others! I wonder if the City Lord might lend a hand…”

“Hmph!” Belut gave a cold snort. His thick, dark eyebrows shot straight up, and his gaze swept over her, cold and detached.

“Sister!” Gasleisen also called out sternly.

“Ridiculous!”

Belut’s sharp gaze fixed on the Great Elder. “Healing one person consumes Highgod Power! It drains my own energy! It’s easy for you to say… Furthermore, what do the deaths of your clansmen matter to me? By your logic… should every time someone is injured in the entire Infernal Realm, or someone is in danger, I, Belut, must step in to save them?!”

When Belut flew into a rage, it shocked the Four Divine Beast Family clan heads and elders a great deal.

Heavens! The reason their Four Divine Beast Families still had the Celestial Mount Tianji to hide in was all because of Belut. If Belut simply chose not to help, the Four Divine Beast Families would be finished under the assault of the Eight Great Families.

Facing Belut’s anger, the Great Elder didn’t dare make another sound.

“City Lord, my apologies. My sister is also worried about the clansmen,” Gasleisen apologized quickly, then immediately led the others away.

“Belut, you getting angry like that scared that female elder into silence. You could have just refused. There was no need to get angry,” Puslo said with a smile. Belut’s face regained its smile.

“Puslo, with outsiders, you don’t always need to greet them with a smile. Otherwise, some people will only become more presumptuous,” Belut said calmly.

Belut was not the soft-hearted type. Back during the war on the Yulan Continent, no matter how tragic it was, no matter how many died, Belut hadn’t cared at all. In his view, life and death were always a part of the natural laws of heaven and earth.

People were always meant to have a day they die.

Even becoming a God, while one might possess an infinite lifespan, in the entire Infernal Realm, countless Gods were dying in combat at every moment. If it weren’t for people connected to him, or people he cared about, why would he lift a finger?

“Grandpa, let’s go outside quickly,” Bei Bei urged.

Belut laughed: “Right, we’ve disturbed Lin Lei and his wife.”

“Lord Belut, thank you truly,” Lin Lei said, holding Dilili’s hand, expressing his gratitude to Belut. This time, Belut had saved Dilili; this kindness, Lin Lei felt he could never fully repay.

“Haha…” Belut chuckled. “Alright, I won’t disturb you two as husband and wife anymore.”

Belut then left with Puslo and Bei Bei. Only Lin Lei and Dilili remained in the entire room.

Inside the room.

Lin Lei was slowly recounting the events of the past while Dilili listened. Though Lin Lei spoke calmly, Dilili could sense the terror, despair, and the exhilarating excitement of finding salvation in a desperate situation between his lines.

“Dilili, if Lord Belut hadn’t saved you this time, I truly cannot imagine what the future would have held after your death,” Lin Lei sighed softly. “Cultivation? Why do I cultivate? Even if my strength increases, so what? Without you here, no matter how strong I become, what meaning would it have?”

For Lin Lei, Dilili’s death would have cast his future into utter darkness.

There would be no hope!

There would be no motivation!

Dilili’s eyes grew moist upon hearing this. She quickly reached out and hugged Lin Lei. “Lin Lei, don’t say anymore. I’m better now, I’m better!”

“Yes. You’re better.”

Lin Lei gently caressed Dilili’s cheek and nodded. “Dilili, I have never felt so excited, happy, or thrilled! When I saw you open your eyes, saw the color return to them… it felt as if my entire being was reborn!”
