Having agreed to help Xise, Lin Lei naturally tried every means to investigate
"Magnolia!"
Lin Lei strode forward and greeted her.
Magnolia was a Red-Robed Elder of the Bagshaw Family, and the only woman among the three Red-Robed Elders that Bocawey had brought along during the last great battle. Magnolia turned her head, a hint of amusement in her violet eyes. "Mr. Lin Lei, is there something you need?"
"Magnolia, I have something I'd like to ask you," Lin Lei said quickly.
"Go ahead," Magnolia replied politely.
"Last time, that Cecra flew into a rage and wanted to kill my friend. It must have been because of his wife. Do you have any idea what's become of Cecra's wife?" Lin Lei asked directly.
Magnolia frowned and shook her head. "I'm not sure about that. Cecra and his wife both live in the clan leader's residence. We don't normally go in there. I'd say the only people who know about this matter would be the attendants and the steward inside the clan leader's estate, and perhaps a few others."
Lin Lei's brow furrowed.
The clan leader's residence was the most heavily guarded place in the Bagshaw Family's territory. The people living there were Bocawey and his two sons, among others. Those attendants were essentially never allowed to leave.
Investigating would be truly difficult.
"If you get the chance, you could ask Cecra directly, or the clan leader himself," Magnolia suggested.
"Mm, I know. Sorry to bother you."
Lin Lei left immediately.
Ask Cecra or Bocawey? As if Lin Lei didn't know that was an option. But he was well aware that the moment he asked, both Cecra and Bocawey would guess he was doing it on Xise's behalf. How would they feel about that?
At the very least, they wouldn't be happy about it.
Lin Lei wasn't the type to go around making himself a nuisance unless it was absolutely necessary.
He wandered the area for a while, asking several people of some standing, but none of them had any idea about Cecily's current situation. Lin Lei could only return to his own residence in disappointment. As he approached the front gate of his estate, he spotted Xise.
"Lin Lei, how did it go?" Xise asked eagerly.
"Cecily lives in the clan leader's residence—a place even I can't enter without authorization. Don't worry, I'll keep asking around," Lin Lei said with a shake of his head, regret evident in his voice.
A flicker of disappointment crossed Xise's eyes, but he quickly forced a smile. "I'm not in a hurry, I'm not in a hurry!"
Lin Lei sighed inwardly.
"By the way, Tarosha and Di Lin are here," Xise said.
"They're here?" Lin Lei immediately headed inside, while Xise quickly added, "Lin Lei, don't blame them. You know what the situation was like—they just didn't want to throw their lives away for nothing."
"I understand."
Lin Lei didn't actually blame Di Lin and Tarosha that much.
But he did find it strange. From what he knew of Di Lin and Tarosha, they were the type who would have stepped forward in such a dangerous situation. Yet both of them had backed down. It was hard for him to believe.
Not that they were wrong—it just didn't sit well with him emotionally.
Rounding the corridor and entering the courtyard gate, Lin Lei saw Di Lin and Tarosha sitting there.
"Boss!"
Lin Lei shot Bei Bei a slight glare. Even if he was unhappy about it, there was no need to publicly humiliate them like that.
Di Lin and Tarosha both stood up immediately, looking somewhat awkward. Lin Lei, however, walked over with a smile. "Di Lin, Tarosha, sit down and let's talk. Sit!" Lin Lei was the first to take a seat.
Di Lin and Tarosha exchanged a glance.
"Lin Lei, what happened today was our fault," Di Lin said, being the first to speak, shaking his head helplessly. "I'm sorry. At the time, we both thought that resisting would be nothing but suicide, so..." Tarosha nodded as well.
Being in the wrong left one without much confidence to speak, and that was exactly how Di Lin and Tarosha felt now.
"I don't blame you," Lin Lei said with a smile. "After all, Xise is fine now." He could see that both Di Lin and Tarosha felt genuinely remorseful. Since they felt guilty, there was no need for him to say more.
Tarosha and Di Lin both breathed a sigh of relief.
"Lin Lei!" Tarosha couldn't help but ask, curiosity getting the better of him. "I heard that you single-handedly killed a large number of island guardian warriors and even defeated a Red-Robed Elder?"
"Just lucky," Lin Lei said.
Tarosha and Di Lin looked at each other in astonishment. Living on Miluo Island, they knew full well what kind of power a Red-Robed Elder possessed. Every Red-Robed Elder had the strength of a Seven-Star Demon! And yet Lin Lei, whom they had considered a mid-level god, had actually defeated a Seven-Star Demon!
Back on the Yulan Continent, Lin Lei had only been a low-level god.
"Lin Lei, are you a mid-level god or a high-level god?" Di Lin asked once more.
No wonder Di Lin asked such a question—Lin Lei's performance had been absolutely shocking.
"There's no need to discuss that. Just treat me as a six-star demon," Lin Lei replied with a shake of his head. "Tarosha, Di Lin, I have something to ask you. I've heard that a Hundred-Victory Champion is allowed to enter the West Island secret grounds. Do you know what's inside those secret grounds?"
Red-Robed Elders also had the right to enter the West Island secret grounds.
Lin Lei was curious—what exactly was inside the West Island secret grounds of Miluo Island?
"West Island secret grounds?" Both Di Lin and Tarosha looked startled.
"Ask Tarosha—I don't know," Di Lin shook his head.
"Weren't you also a mid-level god Hundred-Victory Champion?" Lin Lei didn't understand. Di Lin explained: "After entering the West Island secret grounds, you still need to be examined by the people inside. They have to determine whether you're qualified to view the contents. I was turned away at the door."
Lin Lei was stunned.

Lin Lei turned to look at Tarosha, who said with a sigh, "What the West Island secret grounds lets us view are nothing but Floating Shadows!"
