Chapter 24. Two Paths — Life and Death

January 17, 2020 · 7 min read · 1,330 words

Right now, above the border between Miluo Island's eastern and western islands, tens of thousands of Highgod island-guarding warriors had formed a tight encirclement. Lin Lei and his group were like turtles in a jar with nowhere to flee. The greatest threat to Lin Lei was the four people standing opposite him.

Four Seven-Star Demons!

"In a single slash, he cut my Blackstone Prison, the 'Cube,' in half. The remaining blade force I dispersed with my fist. But the power of that strike was truly terrifying." Lin Lei felt a numbness spreading across the surface of his right fist. A glance downward revealed a faint white mark streaked across his knuckles.

Lin Lei was horrified.

That was merely the leftover blade force after carving through so many walls of his Blackstone Prison! If a full-power slash had struck him directly, whether his dragon scales could withstand it was anyone's guess!

"A Seven-Star Demon! Definitely a Seven-Star Demon!"

Lin Lei stared at the burly red-robed man who had just delivered that slash — a brawny figure with wild, yellow hair like a lion's mane. The man now stood respectfully beside a red-haired man.

"Who is this red-haired man?" Lin Lei thought warily.

Three red-robed elders flanked the red-haired man. Young Master Sakla had also arrived at the red-haired man's side, looking equally respectful. But when the red-haired man shot him a glare, Sakla lowered his head and stood meekly to one side.

"Even Sakla is this deferential, and they look somewhat alike. Could this be Sakla's father?" Watching this scene, Lin Lei quietly drew his own conclusions from his brief observation.

The situation was dire!

The three red-robed figures were most likely all Seven-Star Demons. As for the red-haired man, he was no weaker.

"Using divine power was one thing, but the most important thing was to protect Dilia and the others." Lin Lei still felt a knot of worry in his chest. After all, there were tens of thousands of Highgod warriors packed tightly around his group!

These Highgod warriors posed a considerable threat as well.

"It seems there's no other way!" Lin Lei gritted his teeth.

He had to hold off the enemy while also protecting Dilia and the others. But the enemy likely included four Seven-Star Demons, and even with divine power, he would need to go all out.

In the worst-case scenario, he would have to use two drops of divine power simultaneously!

One drop for his true body, to deal with the four Seven-Star Demons.

One drop for his clone, to protect Dilia and the others.

"That's the worst-case scenario," Lin Lei thought with some reluctance. After all, it was two drops of divine power. But the enemy was simply too strong!

"I hope you won't push me to that final step."

He said silently in his heart.

As Lin Lei sized up his opponents, they were studying him just as carefully — and with similar shock, they discovered that the four of them, all Seven-Star Demons, could not see through Lin Lei at all.

"This man is very powerful." Baukway, patriarch of the Bagshaw Family, was startled. He also shot a fierce glare at his son.

If it weren't for his son, how would they have provoked such an enemy?

"Paslow!" Baukway called out.

"My lord." The lion-maned, red-robed giant stepped forward.

"Go test him. If you're confident, kill him." Baukway sent through divine sense. He knew very well the strength of the three red-robed elders he had brought. In terms of defense, Paslow was the strongest.

To gauge the opponent's strength, Paslow was the most suitable choice.

"Yes, my lord!" Paslow looked somewhat excited.

Paslow turned his head, his golden eyes locking onto Lin Lei. He split his mouth into a wide grin. "Haha! You took one of my strikes just now, so you've earned the right to know my name. I'm Paslow. Don't die without knowing who killed you!"

Lin Lei stood coldly in midair.

His body flickered, and his Wind-type divine clone flew out, landing beside Dilia, Bei Bei, Olivia, and the others. Dilia and the rest were filled with worry. Bei Bei transmitted through divine sense: "Boss, are you going to use the divine power?"

"Yes. My Wind-type clone is also carrying a drop of divine power. I'll use it immediately if things get dangerous," Lin Lei replied.

Two drops of divine power — one in his true body's Coiling Dragon Ring, the other moved by Lin Lei into his Wind-type clone's spatial ring. Should the situation take a sudden turn, Lin Lei would use the divine power without hesitation!

"Haha! I haven't even killed you yet, and you're already scared enough to split off a divine clone?" Paslow laughed heartily.

His laughter echoed across Miluo Island like rolling thunder.

"Enough talk!" A cold voice rang out from Lin Lei.

Paslow was momentarily taken aback, but his expression quickly turned serious. With a flip of his hand, a pitch-black blade nearly two meters long appeared in his grasp.

In an instant —

The tens of thousands of Highgod warriors in the encirclement, along with the countless gods watching from below, all fell silent. Every pair of eyes was fixed on this earth-shaking battle.

"I didn't expect to see a battle like this on Miluo Island." A black-haired man with a war blade strapped to his back appeared among the crowd, looking up at the fight. It was none other than Lomy Bolnosen, who had recently made a name for himself on Miluo Island!

Lomy's eyes narrowed slightly as he watched the two combatants with the focus of a viper.

The battle that captivated countless onlookers had begun!

BOOM! The ferocious, red-robed giant Paslow charged forward with his blade, his speed instantly reaching its absolute peak. He moved so fast that the heavens and earth themselves trembled and rumbled. In an instant, Paslow soared into the sky.

Then Paslow's figure froze.

Silently, Paslow dove from the heights, bringing his blade down in a devastating slash aimed at Lin Lei. But what was strange was — this strike made absolutely no sound, and there was not the slightest spatial distortion.

It looked like an utterly ordinary slash.

"Oh?" Below, Lomy's eyes lit up. "The Path of Destruction cultivated to this level — Miluo Island truly hides more dragons and tigers than one would think!" But Lomy noticed that Lin Lei remained rooted in place, seemingly unconcerned.

Lomy was inwardly astonished.

Even he wouldn't dare be so nonchalant facing such a powerful strike.

"Impressive." A note of admiration came from Lin Lei's lips. But then —

As Paslow traced a perfect arc, still about two hundred meters from Lin Lei, his body suddenly and inexplicably lurched, forcing him back several meters. The momentum of his strike was instantly disrupted.

"What kind of power is this?" Paslow was startled. He had clearly felt an incredible repulsive force act upon his body, and even with his strength, caught off guard, he had no choice but to retreat.

Even Baukway and the others watching from afar were greatly alarmed.

"Father, that man's gravity space is very strange — it can push downward, pull inward, and repel outward," Sakla immediately transmitted to his father through divine sense.

Baukway looked at Lin Lei with astonishment. "Gravity space, cultivated to such a high level?"

He couldn't believe it!

"Haha..." Paslow let out a deep, rolling laugh that surged like an unending river. His gleaming golden pupils fixed on Lin Lei. "I underestimated you."

Gripping his blade with both hands, Paslow forced his way through the repulsive force and charged toward Lin Lei.

Lin Lei stood calmly in place.

"Die!" Paslow brought the blade down with both hands. Where the weapon passed, space tore open like silk fabric sliced by a sharp knife, creating a massive gash. The enormous blade hurtled toward Lin Lei's head.

Before the blade even arrived, the spatial shockwaves it generated had already reached Lin Lei's body.
