When Urnisson suddenly appeared before him, Loisius felt a jolt run through his heart.
"It's over!" Loisius couldn't help but feel a wave of despair.
The soul leech had been implanted only in his strongest divine clone — the Life God clone. Loisius still had another divine clone, but now, even this one had no escape.
"If you don't want to die right now, get back!" Urnisson barked.
Loisius knew full well that retreating would not save him from death. But he still chose to fall back inside the encirclement.
"Pfft!" The dagger pierced straight through the skull of a mid-level god.
Immediately after, Bei Bei flipped his hand to stow the corpse away, then flew back to Lin Lei's side. Lin Lei, Dilia, and Bei Bei huddled together — as long as others didn't attack them, they wouldn't strike back. But the moment someone attacked, they would kill the attacker on the spot!
Regina was also nearby, part of Lin Lei's group.
Still, in a life-or-death moment like this, Lin Lei and the others didn't dare trust Regina completely.
Blood splattered everywhere as the slaughter continued.
"Lin Lei." Dilia looked at Lin Lei. Lin Lei forced a thin smile. Things had already come to this, and Urnisson had declared that only one mid-level god would walk away alive. There were three of them — someone had to die.
Who would die?
"I'd rather die myself than let Dilia or Bei Bei perish." At that moment, Lin Lei's heart ached terribly.
"Even if I die, I want to die by your side." Dilia gazed at Lin Lei, a faint smile on her face. "Just being with you is enough for me."
"Don't talk nonsense!" Lin Lei transmitted through his soul sense, his voice sharp with anger.
But Lin Lei felt a stabbing pain in his heart. Although Dilia's talent in cultivation wasn't particularly high, over the years she had always supported him in silence. That quiet care and support had, little by little, rooted their bond deep within their very souls.
Life and death could not sever that bond.
"You won't die." Lin Lei looked at Dilia while keeping a wary eye on their surroundings.
The white-robed man who had sold off quite a few Moon Rings was now staring at Lin Lei and the others. Lin Lei's group had already realized that this white-robed man was incredibly powerful. More than ten mid-level gods had already fallen to his hands.
"I'd advise you — don't mess with me." Lin Lei held his Black Jade Heavy Sword, transmitting through his soul sense.
The white-robed man hesitated, glancing between Lin Lei and Bei Bei, and ultimately chose not to attack.
Lin Lei and Bei Bei had already killed quite a few people between them. Lin Lei's soul attacks and Bei Bei's physical attacks were considered top-tier among this group of mid-level gods.
"Stop!" A cold command, like a peal of thunder, boomed from the direction of Diyi City.
Everyone who heard that furious shout felt a wave of dizziness wash over their minds, unable to think of anything else. It took a moment before they recovered. By the time Lin Lei and the others came to their senses, they saw three figures hovering in mid-air. Bathed in the crimson sunlight, the leading figure seemed to shine even more brilliantly.
He wore a golden robe, had white eyebrows, and golden pupils!
White brows and golden eyes!
"A Seven-Star Demon — the City Lord of Diyi?" Lin Lei was filled with wild elation. Lin Lei, Bei Bei, and Dilia's faces lit up with near-instantaneous joy.
Not only them — even the silver-haired elder who had been fighting bloodily and was still alive spotted the arrivals, and immediately cried out in excitement, "My Lord!"
"The City Lord?" Many of the participants in the Demon Trial looked at the arrivals with surprised delight.
As a Seven-Star Demon, Diyi was absolutely one of the pinnacle powerhouses of Hell.
"Oh, Stuart!" The grey-robed Urnisson glanced at the City Lord of Diyi. "Stuart, surely you're not going to interfere in this matter?"
Lin Lei and the others were shocked. They knew that "Diyi" was simply the title the City Lord had taken after becoming a Seven-Star Demon.
As for the City Lord's true name, very few people knew it.
The City Lord of Diyi arched a white brow, his piercing gaze falling on Urnisson. "Urnisson, these are the Demon Castle's people, and moreover, this is right next to Diyi City. Don't push your luck." A hint of anger colored the City Lord's words.
Urnisson's brow furrowed slightly.
Both the City Lord and Urnisson were peerless powerhouses who had risen to fame in a very ancient era. Even back then, they had both already been Seven-Star Demons!
"Stuart, are you actually going to fight me?" Urnisson frowned, his voice low.
At that moment, the thirty-odd survivors who remained alive within the encirclement watched with bated breath. Lin Lei and the others knew full well... their lives now rested in the hands of these two peerless powerhouses. Whether they lived or died depended entirely on the outcome of the conversation between the City Lord and Urnisson.
"I don't want to fight you, but you can't go too far either." The City Lord said as well.
Urnisson knew Diyi's temperament well.
"Fine, I won't bother killing those little mid-level god runts. But these four high-level gods who are still alive — they must die!" Urnisson declared firmly. "These demons all played a part in the death of my divine clone!"
