Chapter 24: The Black-Robed Guards

January 17, 2020 · 6 min read · 1,144 words

The battle within Moon Lake Castle raged on, utter chaos erupting everywhere.

In the fourth-layer secret chamber, Lin Lei and his two companions were with Ruina.

Seeing that Lin Lei and his group showed no intention of chasing after the two fleeing figures and were instead questioning her, Ruina felt both annoyed and exasperated. "You three—what a waste of a rare opportunity!" In Ruina's view, the moment Lin Lei's group heard the words "Death God Puppet," they should have immediately given chase.

Who would have thought that none of the three moved at all?

With just that brief hesitation, those two had surely vanished without a trace.

"Miss Ruina, you mentioned a Death God Puppet—what exactly is it?" Lin Lei asked.

Ruina stared at Lin Lei and the other two in disbelief. After a long pause she said, "Lin Lei, are you three truly ignorant or just pretending? I'm starting to suspect you're deliberately messing with me!" The Death God Puppet was quite famous in Hell.

Anyone who had spent enough time there and seen enough of the world would generally know about it.

"Just tell us already!" Bei Bei snorted.

Ruina glanced at the three of them several more times before letting out a low humph. "I don't know if you really don't know or not. Fine, I'll tell you. The Death God Puppet is a rather unique humanoid weapon. You can think of it as a human-shaped divine artifact."

"The Death God Puppet, like divine artifacts, is forged from metal. It also possesses divine power, but its divine power is supplied by a 'God Crystal,'" Ruina continued. "The Death God Puppet cannot launch soul attacks, but because it is a weapon, it is naturally immune to soul attacks as well. Add to that its extremely hard body, and it becomes a truly troublesome opponent."

Lin Lei, Dilia, and Bei Bei exchanged glances.

"So that was a Death God Puppet!" Bei Bei exclaimed with wonder. Lin Lei and Dilia both smiled.

Now they finally understood that the metal monster Bei Bei had been fighting was a Death God Puppet.

Death God Puppets were indeed troublesome. Even Highgods would typically find them头疼-inducing. The only way to deal with a Death God Puppet was to kill the person controlling it! Once the master was slain, the puppet would naturally become an unowned object.

"If it weren't for Bei Bei, that Death God Puppet really would have been difficult to handle. No wonder it took such a fierce beating without taking any damage," Lin Lei sighed inwardly, glancing at Bei Bei. "That Death God Puppet would only feel helpless running into someone like Bei Bei."

Bei Bei was simply monstrous.

But the Devouring God Mouse—there were only two across all the countless planes.

"Moreover, based on my observation, that Death God Puppet should be of the highest grade," Ruina remarked with admiration. "A top-grade Death God Puppet is far more valuable than an ordinary Highgod artifact. Even a Highgod Divine Spark doesn't come close."

"How much is it worth?" Bei Bei's eyes lit up.

Ruina glanced at Bei Bei, then looked at Lin Lei and Dilia, and sighed unwillingly. "Forging a Death God Puppet is far more complicated than forging a divine artifact, and the price is outrageously high. Usually it costs around one hundred million Inkstones."

"One hundred million?"

Lin Lei, Dilia, and Bei Bei were secretly thrilled.

It now seemed that the greatest treasure among the three of them was not that Highgod Divine Spark, but rather this Death God Puppet.

"That's why I told you to chase after them just now! With the four of us working together, we could definitely have succeeded. That was a Death God Puppet!" Even now, Ruina still felt intensely frustrated. "Having those two bastards get their hands on it—it really doesn't sit well."

Lin Lei and the others simply smiled.

"Boom!" A violent tremor suddenly shook the secret passage.

Lin Lei frowned. "This tremor seems to be coming from deeper in the passage—most likely from the fifth layer."

"Let's go check it out." Bei Bei was brimming with curiosity.

Ruina was equally intrigued. "Let's go take a look." Without further hesitation, everyone plunged into the deep, narrow passage. It was clearly quite constricted—two people could barely walk side by side. It was far narrower than the castle's normal corridors.

Yet the four of them, like nimble rabbits, crossed a hundred meters in the blink of an eye.

"Right here!" Lin Lei and his group came to a stop.

"Boom!" A terrifying, violent tremor was radiating through the passage walls, which had already developed several large cracks—clearly, no defensive magic arrays had been placed on them.

Bei Bei crouched down and peered through the cracks into the space beyond.

"Boss, come quick," Bei Bei transmitted through divine sense. Lin Lei and the other two moved closer, equally curious.

What was on the other side of that wall?

The narrow gap was just enough for Lin Lei to see what lay beyond.

"It's that bald one—Krompton!" Lin Lei was shocked.

In a dim, spacious hall, three figures were exchanging blows at lightning speed.

"Bang!" Krompton was sent flying and smashed hard against the wall before crashing to the ground.

"Ugh!" Krompton glared viciously at the black-robed guard in the distance. "This black-robed guard is no ordinary opponent."

"Krompton, you fool—just stay back and use 'Gravitational Space' to affect him! Remember, don't affect me!" The demon who was fighting the black-robed guard transmitted furiously.

Krompton knew he was weaker. "Got it."

After acknowledging, Krompton stomped the ground, and the black-robed guard battling the demon faltered for an instant, feeling an odd force acting upon his body—as though it had suddenly become ten thousand times heavier.

"It's Earth Core Magnetic Force!" The guard recognized it immediately.

The profound mystery of Gravitational Space, also known as "Earth Core Magnetic Force," was one of the six great mysteries of the Laws of Earth.

"Phut!" The black-robed guard's body twisted and blurred, becoming hazy and insubstantial. When the demon's sword pierced through the phantom-like figure, it failed to wound the guard in the slightest. And the black war blade in the guard's hand danced unpredictably, elusive as a phantom.

The demon instantly transformed into a bolt of lightning, then condensed back into solid form, his striking power equally terrifying.

"Bang!" "Bang!" ...

Every clash between these two powerhouses sent violent shockwaves rippling outward.

The demon fought the black-robed guard with reckless abandon.

"How is this black-robed guard so strong? Killing a black-robed guard shouldn't be a four-star mission—it should be five stars!" Krompton cursed under his breath while struggling to maintain the Earth Core Magnetic Force to hinder the guard.

This black-robed guard was indeed formidable.

In truth, Krompton's group had the advantage—they were three against one! Three demons fighting a single black-robed guard.
