Chapter Fourteen: Two Powerhouses Join Forces
In the O'Brien Empire, inside a grand residence.
This was Ogavin's current residence. Today, he had ordered his servants to prepare a lavish feast, specifically to invite his good friend Hamblit. The two sat across from each other, eating and chatting.
"Ogavin, I get the feeling there's something specific on your mind today. Just say it straight," Hamblit said with a smile.
Ogavin chuckled.
"I really can't hide it from you, brother," Ogavin said, letting out a sigh. A trace of grief flickered in his eyes. "Hamblit, you already know about my son being killed. This is something I can never forget, not for a single moment."
Ogavin gave a bitter laugh. "To be honest, this kind of mental torture… I'm going crazy."
Hamblit knew well how deep the bond between Ogavin and his son had been.
"By the way, I haven't asked yet—how exactly was your son Kingsley killed?" Hamblit asked curiously. "Was it at the hands of that powerhouse who drove you out of the Baruch Empire?"
"No."
Ogavin shook his head. "If he had died at the hands of that powerhouse called Tarosha, I could still accept it. After all, I'm still slightly weaker than him right now. I could calm myself down and keep training. Wait for the day my strength surpasses Tarosha's, and then seek my revenge."
"But the one who killed my son is a lower god!"
"A lower god?" Hamblit was visibly shocked.
Ogavin couldn't help but nod as he cursed. "That's right! Just a lower god. It's enough to drive you insane—a mere lower god, who I could kill with a flick of my hand. But right now, I have no chance to get to him."
"Ogavin, you mean you want me to…" Hamblit could already guess.
Ogavin looked at Hamblit earnestly. "Hamblit, our friendship isn't just one or two years old. I will definitely avenge my son. But the enemy is a bit too strong. I was thinking… if you help me, the two of us joining forces—even with Tarosha protecting him, we can absolutely kill that Olivier with ease."
Hamblit hesitated.
"How many mid-level gods does the enemy have?" Hamblit inquired.
"Two. One is that Tarosha, and the other… seems to be called Di Long. But it looks like he just entered the mid-level god stage. His strength is considerably lower than yours," Ogavin explained.
Hamblit nodded slightly.
But Hamblit had a nagging feeling: if Ogavin was weaker than Tarosha, and Di Long was weaker than himself, then comparing the two sides… the gap wasn't actually that great.
"Can't you ask Baines or Gatebi to help?" Hamblit suggested. "If we get one of them, the three of us joining forces would be a sure thing. And the job would be much easier."
Under Adkins, there had originally been three upper-level gods: his most trusted Baines, the most taciturn Gatebi, and Hamblit himself. In terms of raw strength, Hamblit actually ranked last. Both Baines and Gatebi possessed truly staggering power.
"Baines doesn't even look at me," Ogavin said indignantly. "As for Gatebi, that blockhead—convincing him isn't something that can be done overnight."
Hamblit was well aware of those two and nodded in agreement.
"Hamblit, don't worry. I'm not asking you to fight Tarosha to the death. We just need to kill that lower god, Olivier. Here's my plan: when we arrive, I'll use my clone to hold off Di Long and Tarosha for a short time. Your task is to kill Olivier within that window. What do you think?" Ogavin suggested.
Hamblit listened.
There really was no danger in this plan for him.
"Ogavin, you make it sound simple, but the actual situation could be quite different. This matter… I still need to think about whether it's worth it," Hamblit said deliberately.
Ogavin sneered inwardly.
He understood that without paying a price, Hamblit would never agree to help.
Sure enough…
After Ogavin produced a fine divine artifact, Hamblit agreed to help. The two made their plans: that very evening, they would set out directly for Dragon Blood Castle, seizing the opportunity to kill Olivier in a single instant.
Dragon Blood Castle.
As evening fell, the sky dimmed.
Lin Lei, Di Long, and Tarosha were walking side by side, heading toward the great hall while discussing matters of cultivation.
"Lin Lei, I think there's something off about your training," Di Long said with a frown.
"Off?" Lin Lei was somewhat puzzled.
This was exactly how Lin Lei had trained when he created "Whisper of Wind."
"I can see you're trying to figure out how to use the 'Sound Profundity' within the Wind Elemental Law to better complement your Purple Blood Soft Sword and unleash greater offensive power, isn't that right?" Di Long said. Lin Lei nodded.
Di Long continued, "Doing it this way can indeed boost your offensive power in the short term. But from a training perspective, it's a waste of time."
"What you're doing is actually a shortcut. You're making the Purple Blood Soft Sword the focus, and the Sound Profundity you've comprehended is tailored to complement it. But once you put down the Purple Blood Soft Sword, everything you've grasped becomes unusable with other weapons. That won't do. Moreover, this way, it'll be very difficult for you to reach the pinnacle of Sound Profundity." Di Long said gravely. "I advise you to start from the fundamentals."
"When cultivating the profundities of elemental laws, you should go from simple to deep… step by step. That way, you'll be able to unleash powerful Sound Profundity attacks with any weapon."
Lin Lei froze for a moment, then smiled.
"Lord Di Long, I know this," Lin Lei said with a sigh. "It's just that not long ago, so many powerhouses descended upon the Yulan Continent, and I felt the pressure. That's why I resorted to this shortcut. Now you've all come, but I didn't think it through and kept training the same way."
"It seems I really should start from the basics and gain understanding step by step."
Lin Lei nodded.
