Chapter 14 Roy's Visit
In the sixth month of the Yulan Calendar year 10034, flames of war once again blazed across the Yulan Continent.
The Yulan Empire, the O'Brien Empire, and the Baruch Empire formed an alliance, initiating the largest war seen in millennia against the weaker Liao Empire, the Rhine Empire, the Holy Alliance, the Dark Alliance, and the Extreme East Great Prairie.
The spiritual leader of the Extreme East Great Prairie, the Martial Saint 'Tulilai', had long received warnings from the Martial God and the High Priestess, knowing this tide could not be turned.
Furthermore, Lin Lei had done him a favor. Moreover, Tulilai did not wish for the warriors of the Extreme East Great Prairie to die in vain before the forbidden destructive magic of Holy Domain Grand Mages. Thus, he had already dispatched his Holy Domain disciples to negotiate with the kings of the three great kingdoms of the Prairie.
Although the kings of the three great kingdoms did not agree to submit to the Baruch Empire, they also did not firmly reject it for the time being.
The upper echelons of both the Holy Alliance and the Dark Alliance had already been eliminated, their Holy Domain forces nearly wiped out, leaving both alliances scattered like loose sand.
The O'Brien Empire's army advanced into the Holy Alliance through the northern pass of the Magic Beast Mountain Range. Those kings and archdukes within the Holy Alliance with good intelligence, upon learning of the Holy Island's destruction and the near-total annihilation of the Church of Light's high command, chose to secretly meet with representatives of the O'Brien Empire.
In fact, the news of the Church of Light leadership's demise had been actively spread by the O'Brien Empire's side.
And since it was the truth, the surviving members of the Church of Light in various regions could not conceal it, even if they wished to. Clearly... the Holy Alliance was about to become a historical name, fully conquered by the O'Brien Empire—it was only a matter of time.
At least, that was how it appeared now.
And the situation of the Dark Alliance was no better than that of the Holy Alliance.
Of course, both the Church of Light and the Church of Darkness had always had numerous personnel dispersed outside. Although their headquarters had been destroyed and few Holy Domain experts remained, the management of worldly affairs still primarily fell to those operating within the mortal world.
After thousands of years of rule, the influence of these two great churches remained powerful.
The remnants of the Church of Light and the Church of Darkness, especially some fanatics, were utterly unwilling to give up.
Religious faith was truly powerful.
Through various means, be it gentle or bloody, the two churches relied on their accumulated heritage of tens of thousands of years to stabilize the situation within the two alliances. They were prepared to fight to the last against the Yulan Empire and the O'Brien Empire, unwilling to surrender until the final moment.
On a desolate road in the southeastern province of the O'Brien Empire, at the foot of the Magic Beast Mountain Range.
A bizarre figure, completely shrouded in a green robe, stood on this desolate road, looking around. Only from the withered, skeletal fingers resembling chicken claws that protruded from his long sleeves could one faintly determine that this figure was likely an emaciated old man.
However...
His eyes glowed with an eerie green light, like the eyes of a wolf in the depths of the night.
Behind him stood nine humanoid figures, each shrouded in silver robes. These nine figures in silver robes stood respectfully behind the green-robed emaciated old man, like servants, displaying utmost deference.
"The Yulan Continent, this is the Yulan Continent..." A hoarse, low voice came from the green-robed old man.
"Cough, cough..." A coughing sound rang out, and the green-robed old man seemed somewhat feeble.
Suddenly, two young men on horseback galloped side by side down the desolate road ahead. Seeing the green-robed old man and the nine mysterious silver-robed figures standing on the road, they, for some unknown reason, felt a sudden chill rise from the depths of their hearts.
The two young men instinctively reined in their horses, intending to quickly leave from the road's edge.
They did not want to be entangled with these seemingly mysterious figures before them.
"Humans..." Upon seeing the two young men, the green-robed old man's glowing green eyes brightened. His withered hands, which had only skin left over the bones and resembled chicken claws, reached out flatly. Immediately, a bizarre, invisible force controlled the two young men.
"Ah!" "Ah!"
The two young men found themselves unable to move. Then, defying their own will, they flew into the air, hurtling toward the green-robed old man with the speed of arrows. This caused the two young men to let out low screams of terror.
"Thud!" "Thud!"
His hands each grabbed the head of a young man. Immediately, the two young men's faces contorted in pain, constantly twitching, as if having a seizure.
"Oh, the Martial God, the High Priestess? And that legendary Dragon Blood Warrior?" the emaciated old man murmured in a low voice. Then, his glowing green eyes glanced at the two young men, whose eyes were rolling back in their seizures. "Poor children, I bestow upon you... eternal release."
Immediately, the two young men's bodies hit the ground, but within them, not a trace of life remained. They were dead.
"A pity, these two souls are too weak. Consuming them won't help me much." The emaciated old man let out a long, comfortable breath.
Consuming souls?
If anyone heard this, it would be absolutely shocking.
But the nine mysterious silver-robed figures behind him remained silent all along, standing respectfully.
"Now that a continent-wide large-scale war has ignited across the Yulan Continent, this is your best opportunity. Go, my children, and do not disappoint me." The green-robed old man's hoarse voice sounded. The nine silver-robed figures all knelt respectfully on one knee: "Yes, Grand Necromancer!"
Then, with a 'whoosh'... 'whoosh'...
The nine silver-robed figures transformed into nine streaks of silver light, instantly becoming points of light and vanishing into the horizon. Their speed was such that even if Lin Lei or Deslai saw it, they would be horrified.
"Yulan Continent, ten thousand years, yet such great changes have occurred." The green-robed old man sighed softly. "First, recover my strength. When the time comes, I shall pay a visit to Lord Belute." Then, the green-robed old man's body shifted, and he vanished in an instant like a phantom.
Baruch Empire, Dragon Blood Castle Great Hall.
"Brother Roy, your timing isn't great. A few months ago, my brother went into closed-door secluded cultivation," Wotton said helplessly to the visiting Roy.
"Third Brother went into secluded cultivation?" Roy frowned.
"What's wrong? Is there some trouble? You could tell me about it; perhaps I can help you solve it," Wotton said with a smile. He knew very well how close Roy and Lin Lei were, and since it was Roy's matter, he naturally had to help.
