Chapter 17: The Location of the Passage

January 17, 2020 · 5 min read · 1,014 words

In the sixth layer of the Tomb of the Gods, the Flame Monarch towered like a mountain upon the rocky ground, gripping a massive bloodthirsty axe. Fire blazed from his eyes as he roared in fury, and the entire sixth layer's rivers of molten lava surged and churned.

Suspended in midair, Lin Lei and the other nine great powerhouses all sensed the danger.

"What do we do?" Rosalie whispered.

The others remained silent.

"We've missed the best chance. Killing the Flame Monarch now is going to be incredibly difficult." Tulie's gaze was locked entirely on the Flame Monarch in the distance. "Lasseford, Rosalie — all we can do is try once more and see if we succeed."

Lasseford and Rosalie both nodded slightly.

"My children!" the Flame Monarch roared in fury. "Attack! Kill them with me!" As he spoke, his enormous body transformed into a gigantic crimson phantom. With a terrifying shriek he charged forward — despite his colossal size, his speed was terrifyingly fast.

The ten great powerhouses reacted in unison.

"Fall back first — buy Rosalie time!" Desley's voice echoed in the minds of the other nine.

Casting Forbidden Magic, especially large-scale Forbidden Magic, required considerable time. The ten powerhouses retreated like ten streaking meteors, each moving at extraordinary speed, not one bit slower than the Flame Monarch.

"Hmph!" The Flame Monarch snorted in rage.

"Roar~~" Dense swarms of Crimson Rock Demons closed in from every direction.

"We can't let these Crimson Rock Demons pin us down. If our speed drops and the Flame Monarch catches up, we're finished." Faun's voice also rang out in everyone's minds. Every powerhouse present understood this. Instantly, the seven outer powerhouses unleashed their respective ultimate techniques.

They shielded the three in the center from interference.

"Strange." Lin Lei was flying at top speed, yet he noticed that not a single Crimson Rock Demon dared come near him.

"The Crimson Rock Demons won't even approach Lin Lei," Desley, Faun, and the others noticed the phenomenon. They didn't know whether to laugh or cry, but could only focus on driving the Crimson Rock Demons back one by one.

When fighting other magical-beast powerhouses, or people like Faun and Desley, the Crimson Rock Demons would at most suffer serious wounds — they just needed to rest a while. But fighting Lin Lei... the moment a Crimson Rock Demon was touched by Lin Lei's fist, its entire body was obliterated. Dead beyond any hope of revival.

"Lin Lei, protect Rosalie!" Desley's voice echoed in Lin Lei's mind.

"Understood." Lin Lei flew closer to Rosalie.

Immediately, no Crimson Rock Demon dared attack Rosalie either. Those that tried had Lin Lei move in an instant and deliver a single punch. Lin Lei's fists... the Crimson Rock Demons shattered on contact.

"Kill that human woman!" the Flame Monarch bellowed urgently.

The Flame Monarch recognized Rosalie's threat. He was fire-attributed, and Rosalie's powers directly countered his. While Desley was also a Saint Grand Mage, the threat he posed was far less terrifying than Rosalie's.

"Roar~~" "Roar~~" "Roar~~"...

The Crimson Rock Demons gritted their teeth and, ignoring Lin Lei entirely, roared as they swarmed forward, charging straight at Rosalie.

"Bring it on!" Lin Lei laughed. His dark-golden pupils swept over the mass of Crimson Rock Demons, and then his entire body became like a gust of wind. Not only did both fists swing, but his legs chopped like guillotine blades — anything struck by those legs was reduced to powder.

"Hum~~"

The air temperature plummeted. The once-rushing rivers of lava froze solid, transforming into rocky ground. Even the crimson rocks turned dark black. Countless frost crystals descended from empty sky, filling the space for several miles around the Flame Monarch.

Water System Forbidden Magic — Absolute Zero!

"Roar~~" The Flame Monarch's entire body was covered in frost, yet he roared thunderously. The grayish-dark rocky skin on his surface gradually turned crimson once more, while the frost coating him slowly melted away.

Seeing this, everyone felt a surge of alarm.

"His soul wasn't affected." Rosalie's expression shifted. The Forbidden Magic "Absolute Zero" also carried a soul attack. The first time, the Flame Monarch had been stunned by the impact on his soul. But this time, the Flame Monarch was completely unaffected.

"Whoosh!"

An invisible wave emanated from Desley's body, hurtling toward the Flame Monarch at astonishing speed. In an instant it penetrated the Flame Monarch's body. The Light Saint Grand Mage "Desley" was also extraordinarily skilled in spiritual attacks.

The Flame Monarch's roar cut off abruptly.

"Good!" Faun, Tulie, and the other powerhouses' eyes lit up.

"Lasseford!" Tulie called out in a low voice.

A lightning-fast figure shot forward. Lasseford's expression was somewhat savage, his palms entirely wreathed in cyan light. Even if someone stood right beside Lasseford, they would feel not a trace of cold — he had cultivated the freezing power within the Water elemental law to an extremely high level.

But at this moment, dozens of Crimson Rock Demons suddenly erupted from beneath the Flame Monarch, all charging toward Lasseford, determined to stop him.

Like cyan lightning, Lasseford dodged the majority of the Crimson Rock Demons and struck two of them with consecutive palm blows. Those two demons were instantly encased in frost, then with two sharp cracks, they shattered into frozen fragments.

"Die!" Lasseford had already reached the Flame Monarch, his palms about to strike.

"Whoosh!" The Flame Monarch's massive, previously still body abruptly retreated at extreme speed. At the same time, the bloodthirsty giant axe trailed an eerie blood-red glow, tracing a sinister arc as it cleaved downward toward Lasseford. The axe's speed was terrifying beyond belief.

The Flame Monarch's flying speed couldn't match theirs, but the speed at which he swung that axe was truly horrifying.

"Watch out!" Lin Lei, Desley, Faun, and the others tensed up.

"Ah!" Lasseford looked up to see the hundred-meter-long icy axe blade descending upon him, his heart trembling with terror. There was no time to dodge. With a furious roar, his cyan-glowing palms shot up to block.

Two palms against the bloodthirsty giant axe!
