Chapter 42: A Disaster

Inside the tent, everyone couldn't help but look toward Lin Lei. There was no doubt—Lin Lei was the leader of this group of Saint Realm experts.

"Boss!" Bei Bei urged anxiously.

Lin Lei shook his head slightly. "Once we break the agreement, then according to its terms, Deslie's side and the Church of Light and the Church of Darkness—the three parties—will join forces against us."

"So what if they come?" Bei Bei wrinkled his nose fiercely. "I'll just eat those Saint Realm powerhouses! Besides, Boss, that Deslie probably won't come after you, right? He's clearly on our side."

Deslie was indeed on Lin Lei's side.

"If Seisler casts Forbidden Magic and summons that army of several million undead, we'd win without question. But that would break the agreement, and even though Deslie might not attack us, we'd be humiliating him."

When someone gives you face, you can't exactly make them lose face in return.

"Damn it, this is such a headache," Bei Bei said, getting agitated. "Boss, Seisler summons undead, and it's the undead who kill the soldiers. As long as we don't let the Saint Realm undead fight, it shouldn't count as a violation, right?"

Even Dilia laughed at Bei Bei's logic.

Lin Lei smacked Bei Bei on the head. "Bei Bei, that's just sophistry. What's the difference between summoning the ultimate magic 'Undead Catastrophe' and other schools' Forbidden Magic? If anything, the Undead Catastrophe is even more terrifying—it even includes Saint Realm undead."

"Then we're going to lose," Bei Bei said quickly.

Lin Lei sighed. "If we lose, we lose. The biggest price is that they'll take most of the magic crystal vein. Fortunately, the magic crystals in the deepest core layer—those comparable to seventh, eighth, and ninth-grade Magic Crystal Cores—have mostly been mined out. Bei Bei, you've gotten most of them, right?"

Ever since discovering that mysterious door, Lin Lei had sent word to Bei Bei, instructing him to lead Heilu and the three Saint Realm dragons to mine out the deepest core layer directly.

Those precious magic crystals could barely fill a single room, but in terms of value, they amounted to roughly twenty to thirty percent of the entire magic crystal vein. After all, these crystals were equivalent to the energy levels of seventh, eighth, and ninth-grade magic crystals.

"We got them," Bei Bei replied quickly. "But we've only mined about twenty to thirty percent of the ordinary magic crystals."

The twenty to thirty percent they had mined, even combined with the precious core-region crystals, probably only amounted to roughly half the total value of the entire vein.

Rumble~~~

The dense army quickly formed into ranks. Nearly a million soldiers lay spread out beyond the magic crystal vein's fortifications like an enormous beast.

Within the army, Wisport and Gilmer both wore faint smiles.

"We've won," Gilmer said with a smile, gazing at the magic crystal vein in the distance.

Wisport smiled coolly. "Don't celebrate too early. Until the very end, nothing is certain!"

"I don't care about Lin Lei's ordinary soldiers. What worries me most is that Lin Lei might personally intervene! If those Saint Realm magical beasts charge in, rampaging through our ranks, our entire army could collapse."

"Indeed," Gilmer sighed.

How binding was the agreement, really, on Lin Lei?

"For now, let the army rest. They fought all night and then marched nearly a full day without proper rest," Wisport said. "It's already dark now. Wait until dawn tomorrow—let the soldiers rest through the night and launch the attack at first light."

The advantage was now entirely in Wisport's hands. While the ordinary soldiers were exhausted, the nearly sixty thousand elite warriors were not.

In both legions, the weakest warrior was at least fifth-grade.

At Kod City, they had only attacked at the last moment and then marched for half a day. With their strength, they could go three days and three nights without sleep and be fine.

Deep within the Forest of Darkness.

*Rustle~~* The faint sounds of the primeval forest echoed across the land. Stone Devourer Mice and Shadow Mice appeared by the thousands, filling every inch of visible ground... As far as the eye could see, there was nothing but mice—countless mouse-type magical beasts racing southward through the Forest of Darkness at breakneck speed.

Gray Stone Devourer Mice, black Shadow Mice, silver Stone Devourer Mice, cyan Shadow Mice, gold Stone Devourer Mice, purple Shadow Mice...

Mice of every color surged southward through the Forest of Darkness like a tide.

Three purple-gold mice soared through the air above them.

"Big Brother, aren't we being a bit too extreme this time?" one of the purple-gold mice asked.

"Too extreme?" The leading purple-gold mouse snorted. "We are the kings of the mouse-type beasts. When the three of us brothers appear, it's only natural to make a big show of it. I've only called over a portion of the Forest of Darkness's mice—I haven't even mobilized all of them yet."

The Forest of Darkness was the home of the mouse-type beasts.

Within the Forest of Darkness, the mouse-type beast swarms were the most feared existence. No other magical beast dared to offend them.

Even Saint Realm magical beasts did not wish to provoke the Mouse King.

These purple-gold mice were all terrifyingly powerful.

"That Lin Lei hasn't met us yet, has he?" one of the purple-gold mice said with a laugh.

"Mm. He's done a great deed—taking care of Bei Bei all this time," the leading purple-gold mouse said.

"Don't get too cocky, Big Brother. From what I've gathered chatting with Bei Bei, this Lin Lei is incredibly powerful—a fully awakened Dragon Blood Warrior with profound comprehension of the laws. You might not even be his match," the third of the purple-gold mice said.

The leading purple-gold mouse snorted several times. "His strength is barely enough to be worthy of the title 'Boss Lin Lei.'"

Twelve years ago, when Bei Bei had clashed with the purple-gold mice, he had been at a disadvantage.

Yet twelve years later, Bei Bei's strength had become nearly equal to that of these purple-gold mice.

"This speed is really too slow," the leading purple-gold mouse said impatiently. Suddenly, it let out a piercing shriek—*Yeeeo~~*—the sharp cry spreading outward. Immediately, the boundless swarms of Stone Devourer Mice and Shadow Mice below surged forward at dramatically increased speed.

Wherever the boundless mouse swarms passed, all other magical beasts fled and scattered.

No one dared to stand in their way.

Lin Lei's forces were hidden behind their fortifications, relying on the terrain and environment to hold back the enemy. Though they knew the opposing soldiers had been exhausted from the previous night's battle, Lin Lei's own hundred and fifty thousand soldiers who had marched here were no less weary.
