Gilmer pondered for a moment. "Fine, let them go."
Before long, six seemingly ordinary warriors entered the command post. Vispote and Gilmer exchanged a glance, and then Vispote issued orders to the six: "You six will first blend in with the main army and fight your way toward the city gates. Once you're close enough, use your fastest speed to tear open the gates and lead the army into the city. Don't give the enemy time to react."
"Yes, sir."
Three of them immediately acknowledged the order. The other three looked toward Gilmer. Gilmer gave a slight nod. "Do as Vispote says."
"Yes, sir."
On the vast, open ground, countless soldiers surged toward the city like locusts. The sixteen magic crystal cannons continuously fired blinding rays of light, claiming massive numbers of lives. On the walls of Kode County City, Lin Lei, Buck, Gates, Black Shark, Anke, Boone, and the others all stood together.
"They're fighting pretty damn fiercely," Gates said with a laugh, licking his lips.
Black Shark looked at Lin Lei, his eyes gleaming. "Lord Lin Lei, let us go out there and slaughter a few of them!" Among Buck's five brothers, only Buck himself had reached the Saint Realm in human form. The other four were all at the pinnacle of the ninth rank and could break through at any moment.
Lin Lei gazed down at the ceaseless battle below and said with a faint smile, "There's no rush. Your time will come. But remember — no matter what happens, that magic crystal vein absolutely cannot fall into their hands."
Compared to the vast quantities of magic crystal, what Lin Lei valued most was the miniature plane chamber.
This treasure had to be protected.
"It's a pity Seisler already reached the Saint Realm. If he were here, he alone could probably hold off a million soldiers," Lin Lei remarked with a sigh. Seisler and Lin Lei had reached the Saint Realm around the same time, and after becoming a Saint-level Necromancer, Seisler's power had reached truly terrifying heights.
What Seisler was focused on now was recruiting Saint-level undead.
A Saint-level Necromancer could subjugate an entire group of Saint-level undead. The sheer terror of that was unimaginable.
"That old coot hides away in the deep mountains training all day and never shows his face," Gates said with a pout. "Last time I went to find him, he sent one of his Saint-level undead to spar with me. I have to admit… that zombie was pretty damn tough." Gates shook his head in admiration.
Lin Lei smiled to himself.
Seisler had just been messing around with Gates. Lin Lei knew perfectly well… if Seisler had gotten serious, Gates would have been defeated in an instant. Necromancers were the most精通 soul attacks, and they excelled at them. Once Seisler reached the Saint Grand Mage level, a soul attack from him would be devastating.
Even a powerhouse in the Saint Realm would have trouble enduring it.
"Boom!"
Suddenly, Lin Lei and the others felt the entire wall shudder violently. Buck's face changed. "Not good!" Lin Lei's mental power had detected it too — six ninth-rank experts below were combining their full-force attacks, blasting the city gates wide open.
"Charge!" The attacking soldiers excitedly discovered that the gates had been breached.
Immediately, a flood of soldiers poured through the gates, led by the six ninth-rank warriors. The defending soldiers of Kode County City tried to block them, but they were ruthlessly slaughtered by the six ninth-rank warriors with ease. At that moment, an officer at the edge of the gate watched the scene with an icy expression.
"Boulders, drop!" The officer's voice rang out, utterly calm.
Dozens of soldiers pulled the mechanisms with all their strength. A series of cracking sounds echoed, and then massive stones dozens of meters thick slammed down. The soldiers beneath them scrambled to dodge, but most couldn't move fast enough and were crushed into meat paste.
"Boom!"
The city gates were sealed shut!
Soldiers outside could no longer get in, and those inside could no longer get out.
"Gotta say, six ninth-rank warriors — that's pretty ruthless," Gates roared. In one fluid motion he flipped out a massive axe and leaped straight off the wall into the city, ignoring everything else. Those six ninth-rank warriors were already inside the walls. Gates jumped down, and Boone, Anke, and Black Shark followed one after another from the wall.
Inside the city.
The six ninth-rank warriors were slaughtering with wild abandon. The surrounding soldiers simply couldn't stop them.
"Move it!" one of the ninth-rank warriors shouted. His war blade cleaved straight through an officer from the head, splitting a man clean in two. Wherever a ninth-rank warrior passed… bodies lay everywhere.
The other ninth-rank warriors knew they couldn't linger.
Ignoring the soldiers who had charged in alongside them, one golden-haired, one-eyed man pushed off the ground and launched himself upward, effortlessly clearing the thirty-meter-high wall and landing outside. The other five ninth-rank experts immediately pushed off the ground as well —
"Trying to run?!"
A furious roar rang out, followed by the horrifying phantom of a great axe. Gates was the first to land. In midair he intercepted one of the ninth-rank experts. That warrior actually tried to block the axe with his heavy sword. But upon impact —
"Boom!"
The ninth-rank warrior's heavy sword shattered inch by inch. His entire body was blasted into the ground inside the city, cracking the earth beneath him. Gates roared, "You've got the nerve to fight your way into the city? Then die!" The terrifying axe descended, and the surrounding space seemed to freeze in place.
Gates had already reached the 'Domain' level of comprehension!
The ninth-rank warrior tried to dodge but couldn't. "Ahh!" A piercing scream erupted, and then he was sent flying through the air with a single axe blow, spitting blood. Among the blood he vomited were fragments of shattered organs. His body crashed heavily to the ground and could not get back up.
They were both ninth-rank warriors.
But Gates was already at the pinnacle of the ninth rank, and moreover an Undying Warrior. The gap was simply too vast.
The other four ninth-rank warriors also ran into Boone, Anke, and Black Shark. Anke alone, with a single swing of his axe, forced two of them back. The eyes of Black Shark, Boone, and Anke all burned with crazed killing intent.
This localized battle was over almost before it began.
