Chapter 7: The Heavy Blow

January 17, 2020 · 5 min read · 1,091 words

"Pfft!" The left hand, covered in dragon scales, tightly gripped Blumer's Frost Dream Sword. With Blumer's striking power, he couldn't push the sword forward even a fraction of an inch. Wotton's left palm was pressed right against the sword's tip.

Blumer's expression changed.

Escape!

He yanked out the Frost Dream Sword, kicked off the ground, and his entire body skimmed along the arena platform, fleeing backward at extreme speed. Wotton's dragon tail whipped past, missing Blumer's body by a hair.

If Blumer hadn't been so low to the ground, he would definitely have been hit.

"Phew." Blumer stood at the edge of the platform, breathing heavily. That was too close; Wotton's tail had almost struck him.

Blumer was also distressed. Wotton's defense was terrifying. His attacks simply couldn't break through.

"Do I have to use that move?" Blumer's understanding of the 'Light Shadow Sword' was still rather shallow. However, following the method Olivia had taught him, he could indeed unleash its fearsome striking power.

The entire martial arena fell completely silent. The experts' battle speed was too fast; most people couldn't follow it clearly. They only saw Blumer suddenly split into sixteen afterimages, vanishing and reappearing almost instantly.

But Wotton was like an unshakable fortress. No matter how Blumer attacked, he couldn't harm him.

"If you're not going to attack me, then it's my turn," Wotton's voice boomed across the arena. Then, with a rush of wind, he charged straight at Blumer.

Blumer immediately prepared to dodge.

But Wotton's seemingly light Slaughter War Blade moved with a bizarre, unnatural speed, slashing directly towards Blumer's head. Blumer threw himself into an extreme backward lean, kicking off the ground with both feet.

"Whoosh!" Blumer retreated rapidly.

He was fast, but Wotton's blade was faster. Just as it was about to cleave into Blumer's vulnerable abdomen, Blumer spread his legs and rolled backward.

"Boom!" The Slaughter War Blade grazed Blumer's back and slammed into the ground.

Slaughter: One Fatal Strike!

"Boom!" The entire platform shook violently. The magical array protecting it collapsed outright, and the platform itself cracked apart. This scene stunned all eighty thousand spectators in the stands.

The platform's defenses were supposed to be incredibly strong, yet the magical array had been shattered by a single strike.

Blumer twisted in midair and landed at the edge of the spectator stands. The audience members sitting there cried out in alarm.

Blumer let out an angry roar, his face twisted in a ferocious snarl.

Wotton, however, stomped hard on the platform's surface. The ground cracked further, and he shot toward Blumer at the stands' edge. Blumer dodged again.

"Ahh~~!" The spectators screamed in terror as they saw Wotton charging toward them.

But Wotton, moving at incredible speed, merely tapped lightly on the stands, changing direction instantly, and pursued Blumer once more.

Having retreated onto the stands, Blumer's face flushed red, glowing faintly, then shifted to a golden hue. His eyes were now bloodshot.

"What is Blumer doing?" Lin Lei frowned.

Wotton showed no fear, charging forward with the colossal Slaughter War Blade, intent on engaging Blumer in close-quarters combat.

Now, the audience in the stands cheered for Wotton, while many cursed at Blumer. Clearly, Blumer's repeated retreats had annoyed them. What was the point of running away relying on speed again and again? He might as well have conceded.

Blumer watched coldly as Wotton charged, a hint of madness flickering in his blood-red eyes.

The golden light coating his Frost Dream Sword began to mix with a trace of white. Down below, Lin Lei clearly sensed the sword's aura becoming even more piercing.

"Hummm~"

Once again deploying his technique, Blumer's figure shimmered and duplicated. Golden light, now tinged with white, flashed across the arena, and more and more afterimages of Blumer appeared.

"Blumer, can you only run away?" Wotton stood his ground. "Come at me if you have the guts."

Wotton knew he couldn't match Blumer's speed.

"Very well, Wotton! Just as you wished!" A voice ground out through clenched teeth. A dazzling, mottled gold light flashed, and a long sword was suddenly thrust before Wotton's eyes.

Wotton was startled.

This time, it was even faster than before.

"Ha!" Wotton once again reached out with his left hand to grab the Frost Dream Sword, using his tough palm to block the tip. But this time—

"Pschtt!"

The golden and white light swirling on the Frost Dream Sword pierced straight through Wotton's palm. Then, with terrifying speed, it stabbed into the dragon scales covering Wotton's chest.

The bizarre, flowing golden-white light allowed the Frost Dream Sword to penetrate Wotton's scales again.

All this sounds slow, but in reality, it happened in a flash. The sword pierced Wotton's hand and stabbed into his chest in a single, continuous motion. Wotton's reaction was incredibly swift.

"Get off!" Wotton's right leg kicked brutally at Blumer.

Prepared, Blumer yanked the sword out. It had been difficult to thrust in, but pulling it out was much easier. He evaded Wotton's kick, but he couldn't dodge the follow-up strike from Wotton's dragon tail—

Wotton's leg and tail were part of a single, flowing combination attack.

"Crack!" The dragon tail lashed out. Seeing he couldn't avoid it, Blumer could only block with his left arm, bracing himself. At the same time, he used the impact force to try and dodge to the right.

"Boom!"

Blumer's Battle Qi-protected left arm was struck and twisted grotesquely. The tip of the tail even struck Blumer's back, sending his entire body tumbling through the air.

Wotton collapsed to the ground, blood spurting continuously from his chest.

"Big guy!"

Nina cried out in alarm.

Wotton's injuries were severe. Though he had tried to avoid vital points, Blumer's sword had still wounded his lung. Now, even a simple cough sent racking pain through him.

Blumer rolled on the ground and pushed himself up.

His left arm was broken, but he still had fighting strength. Wotton, on the other hand, could barely move. Any sudden movement could worsen his lung injury, potentially leading to death.

"Haha..."

Blumer sneered. At this point, it seemed he had won the match. Yet, he suddenly charged toward Wotton at high speed, the Frost Dream Sword thrusting mercilessly at him.

Almost simultaneously with Blumer's move, a figure shot up from below.

"Get away!" A furious shout rang out. The eighty thousand spectators only saw a gust of wind, followed by countless purple sword shadows striking Blumer's body almost at once.

Blumer desperately mobilized the Battle Qi within his body, forming a Dou Qi Shield.
