Chapter Five: The Day of Destruction

"What on earth is happening?"

Yeru, Rein, and George were completely stunned. Just moments ago they had been attending a wedding banquet, but now a Saint-level magical beast — a Purple-Eyed Golden-Furred Ape — had descended from the sky, and it seemed countless other magical beasts had followed. The sky was packed with Wingdrakes, a sight that sent chills down everyone's spines.

It wasn't just the three of them who were dazed. Every single person in Fenn City was in a state of shock.

"Let's get out of here!" Yeru barked immediately.

The three of them — Yeru, George, and Rein — sprinted out of the Debus Family estate. Fortunately, the Purple-Eyed Golden-Furred Ape hadn't paid them any attention, since Fenn City was simply too crowded with people. Anything worth the ape's notice would have to be at least a ninth-level powerhouse or a Saint-level expert.

"Young master." Most of the guards from the Dawson Trading Company were veterans of the Magic Beast Mountain Range, and they managed to stay calm even as hordes of magical beasts descended.

"Hurry, get me to my father."

Yeru shouted.

Under the protection of the Dawson Trading Company's guards, Yeru, Rein, and George raced toward their family's stronghold. Along the way, they noticed that Fenn City was now swarming with flying magical beasts. The sky held not only Wingdrakes but also two-winged flying horses.

There were seventh-level magical beasts too — Lightning-Winged Horses, Blue-eyed Thunder Eagles, and various others — as well as eighth-level beasts like Golden Sun Eagles and dragons.

The entire sky above Fenn City, as well as the ground below, was covered with these colossal creatures. Fenn City had been plunged into an apocalyptic nightmare with no hope of resistance. Dragons were typically at least eighth-level magical beasts at their weakest, and with over a hundred dragons attacking, who would dare stand against them?

Even the Holy Church's elite knight order would probably be wiped out by a synchronized dragon-fire assault from over a hundred dragons.

"Doom! This is the end!"

Fenn City was engulfed in utter catastrophe. But the residents didn't yet know that the beasts currently arriving were only a small fraction. The majority of magical beasts were ground-dwelling ones, and in terms of speed, ground beasts were slower than flying ones.

That was why the flying beasts had arrived first.

On the walls of Fenn City, the soldiers stood frozen. Today was the ten-thousand-year Yulan Festival — at noon they had been celebrating and drinking heartily — but now the sky was filled with an endless sea of magical beasts. And right before their eyes —

"Magical beasts… so many, so many." The soldiers were utterly dumbstruck.

The ground shook. Outside Fenn City, tens of thousands of Wind Wolves were charging at full speed. A mass charge of hundreds of thousands of Wind Wolves — just the sight of it was enough to make one's blood run cold.

"Mages! Where are the mages?!"

"Magic crystal cannons — get them ready now!"

The city guard officers were bellowing at the top of their lungs, trying to organize the army into fighting shape. In truth, they knew resistance was futile, since large numbers of flying magical beasts had already penetrated deep into Fenn City.

"Captain, what's that?" Suddenly a soldier stared blankly at the sky.

The captain looked up too. In the distance above, an enormous magical beast was hurtling toward them at terrifying speed. It had no wings at all, yet it soared through the air — its velocity was absolutely staggering.

"Flight without wings — it's a… a Saint-level magical beast! A Saint-level beast!"

The captain felt the last shred of hope drain from his body.

"ROAR~~~" "ROAR~~~" "ROAR~~~"…

At the same time, horrifying roars echoed from the outskirts of Fenn City. A colossal figure was sprinting from behind the Wind Wolves at breakneck speed, at least ten times faster than the wolf pack. Its speed was likely not much slower than the Saint-level beast in the air.

It was a massive magical beast standing nearly thirty meters tall. From its appearance, it looked like an enormous lion that had been scaled up many times over. But its eyes were blood-red!

A mage on the walls of Fenn City shrieked: "A Saint-level magical beast — the Blood-Eyed Mane Lion! Heavens, another Saint-level beast! The Blood-Eyed Mane Lion — among the Behemoth clan, only the Golden Behemoth can compare!"

Everyone was shell-shocked.

The gap in power was simply insurmountable.

"Haha, Blood-Eyes, what's a Saint-level beast like you doing running around on the ground?" The colossal beast soaring through the air spoke, its voice rolling like thunder.

Many of the soldiers below swallowed hard.

"It speaks — a Saint-level beast that speaks! It really is true." Nearly everyone present was seeing a Saint-level beast for the first time in their lives, and here they were facing two at once. They finally got a good look at the one in the sky.

The airborne Saint-level beast was black as rock, its form resembling that of a dragon — but without wings.

"It's the Saint-level Tyrant Dragon, the tyrant of the dragon race!" a mage screamed in terror.

The dragon race was broadly divided into two categories. The first had wings — like eighth-level dragons such as Green Dragons and Red Dragons, ninth-level dragons such as Silver Dragons, Black Dragons, and Frost Dragons, and Saint-level Golden Dragons, Seven-Colored Dragons, Blood-Jade Crystal Dragons, and others.

The second category had no wings — like the eighth-level Rapid Dragon, the ninth-level Spine-Backed Iron-Armored Dragon and Sword-Backed Dragon, and Saint-level Lightning Dragons, Tyrant Dragons, and Triceratops Dragons.

The main difference between the winged and wingless types lay in their physical capabilities.

The wingless dragons possessed terrifying physical power. Whether it was the Spine-Backed Iron-Armored Dragon, the Sword-Backed Dragon, the Lightning Dragon, or the Tyrant Dragon — their bodily defenses surpassed those of winged dragons at the same level.

"Hmph, enough talk. Let's compete and see who kills more people!" The Blood-Eyed Mane Lion's horrifying voice rang out, echoing between heaven and earth.

"Deal!" The Tyrant Dragon let out a thunderous roar.

In an instant, its terrifying body — nearly a hundred meters long — dove diagonally from the sky, hurtling straight toward the city walls. Fenn City's walls were incredibly sturdy and reinforced with a massive magical barrier. But now, with so many flying magical beasts in the area, the barrier couldn't be activated.

"You think you can outrun me?!" The Blood-Eyed Mane Lion roared in fury, its speed increasing even further.

The two terrifying beasts — one from the air, one from the ground — raced toward the city walls at blinding speed. Fenn City's walls were over ten meters thick, sturdy enough to hold off an army. But against these two monstrous creatures —

After all, whether it was the Tyrant Dragon or the Blood-Eyed Mane Lion, one would need at least a peak Saint-level expert to stand a chance against them.

"BOOM!"

The Blood-Eyed Mane Lion and the Tyrant Dragon struck the walls almost simultaneously. The walls, over ten meters thick, managed to do nothing more than momentarily slow the beasts' momentum before crumbling completely under the impact.

"CRASH!"
